Following the guide you folks suggested, I went from L42 to L43 in
three hours.
During that time I did 5 quests of up to 3,000 points each. When I
started wacking things was getting me about 400 xp because I was
rested then dropped down to about 200xp.
If I do the math here, that gives 15,000 xp for quests (from 90,000)
leaves about 75,000.
Clearly I did not wack 150(+) baddies in 3 hours. So there must be
some scaling factor. I was wondering how that might work. >> Stay informed about: How is XP Calculated |

If you put your cursor over the experience bar (a long thin bar, divided
into segments, that is immediately above your hotbuttons), it will tell you
exactly how much experience you need to make level. There's no need to
"do the math."

And if you get the Titan panel addon, it will show you exactly how many
XP are left to the next level, how many XP you have gotten this log
session, and.... drum roll please...
How long it will take you to reach the next level assuming you continue
gaining XP at the pace of the current log session.

Except this is not what the OP is actually saying, is it.
He's calculating how much of the 90,000 XP it took to get him from L42
to L43 is from quests, and how much is from grinding. >> Stay informed about: How is XP Calculated |

It is also possible you opened up some new zones/areas while questing which
gives you various amounts of extra xp to factor in. >> Stay informed about: How is XP Calculated |

Well, if you got 400XP (rested) and 200XP (unrested), the average would be
somewhere between the two, let's assume 300XP.
75000/300 = would be 250 mobs, not 150 (you would have needed 500XP per mob
to achieve 75000XP with 150 mobs).
> Clearly I did not wack 150(+) baddies in 3 hours.
Why is this so clear? You would be amazed how many mobs you can kill in 3
hours.

You get some XP for discovering new areas on the map, typically this is a
few hundred XP, so nothing to make a huge difference.

Heh, same question I asked last time the OP brought it up.
Going through the newsgroup logs, seems someone suggested the guides at
