So, you're going to go an eat lunch, and want to know if it's OK to leave
the 360 on for that time? I don't think an hour or 2 should be a bad
thing but if you're going away for a longer amount of time, you'd
probably be better off turning the system off.
I know about the heat concerns, and if you do have one of the older units
and it gets pretty hot even while sitting there idle, it still may be
better to leave it on while away for an hour or so, rather than power it
off, then back on later on. The reason for this is that many of the flaws
in the earlier systems are exacerberated not just by the high heat, but by
the repeated cooling and heating of certain components inside the system.
I guess it would also depend on the game too. The game I'm playing will
go idle, and shut down the DVD drive, rather than continuously spin the
disc. This helps save on wear and tear on the drive. However, if your
game doesn't do this, you may want to reconsider leaving the system on for
that time.
