XBOX orig save games on XBOX GOTY edition?

I have the original version of MW on Xbox (before platinum, even). I would
like to get the GOTY version, but I have not finished the playing the quests
I am on now. If I get the GOTY edition, will it open the save games I have
on my console?

The GOTY edition converts the save files. You won't be able to load them
in the old version of the game any more, and the conversion takes a little
bit of time per save file. To be completely safe though, you should plug a
memory card into your Xbox and copy your existing save files to have a
backup available.
