I think he's trying to say that there are no sets that are natively
1080i, that all sets have a native resolution lower than 1080i and the
higher resolution is accomplished via scaling.

What does the following gibberish mean?
"You don't have a 1080i display they don't exist. I have one at work it
weighs 300 pounds and is only 23 inches. Everyone that has a non-CRT has
a progressive display, those 1080i in's are scaled to something."
The gray text on white background sucks, as does the shitty grammar. The
comments at the bottom are amusing.

The whole article seems to be based on the premise that you wont notice
the differences so long as you've got your tele set up really really
poorly. >> Stay informed about: XBL Marketplace videos vs HD-DVD |

I didn't say he was RIGHT. :^) I was just trying to clarify what I
thought he was saying.
In your case he'd probably argue that your set is scaling up a 480p
image. Yeah. Right.

So supposably my 1080i RP is actually 720p upscaled?
Theory blown, my set doesn't support 720p and a 1080i broadcast is like
being there. I can see the pores in skin.

No, I know you weren't saying he was right.

No....it's most likely a 1080 image downscaled. What is the native
resolution of your screen? >> Stay informed about: XBL Marketplace videos vs HD-DVD |

That's not a resolution. Let me explain.....I own a Pioneer 43" plasma
tele which can display 720p and 1080i. However, the native resolution of
my screen is 1024x768. Whatever source I feed my TV it is scaled to this
resolution. I think the article is suggesting that there are very few
screens which have a native vertical resolution of 1080. The Pioneer
5000EX has a native resolution of 1920x1080 which means that it will
display a true 1080 image without any scaling and it should look
stunning. But then that TV costs around £6000.... >> Stay informed about: XBL Marketplace videos vs HD-DVD |

If it's a CRT based set, the resolution is 1080i native. >> Stay informed about: XBL Marketplace videos vs HD-DVD |

Well, I suppose you are right, it's half the notation for a resolution.
I just figured that most people would be able to figure out the other
half.

Maybe that is why plasmas look grainy.
