The 1.4 update for X³ provides some new game features as well as
improving on those added in 1.3 and fixing a variety of problems
experienced by some players in different parts of the game. For those
who have been playing the 1.3.1 and 1.3.2 BETA versions, the even
better news is that savegames from these versions are compatible with
1.4.

New features in 1.4:
* Tug Laser allows M6/TL class ships to move stations using a tractor
beam
* New commands for automated mobile mining are available through the
Special Command Software
* New option to have ships contact you once they have completed their
current command

Other improvements in 1.4:

* If a hired TL freighter is destroyed an entry in your logbook will
be created
* New military ships have better scanners
* M6 class ships have better energy generators
* Improved performance in sectors with large asteroid counts (Ore
Belt, Savage Spur)
* Additional graphics options to help improve performance on
lower-end graphics cards

The 1.4 update will replace the previous 1.3 update and will of course
include all of its changes.

So is X3 basically the same as X2?...'cept for fancy graphics and
whatnots?

Some people would say yes. I never got into X2 very far as I had just come off
playing X-Tension or X 1.5 as it should have been known. It was so similar I
just couldn't be arsed to play it after a week. This game is more of the same
it just looks a hell of a lot better. It is fun but I worry that Egosoft are
doing games development Smart style, selling the same product over and over
again. All of their games have the same basic premise really. Space is broken
up into little grids with gates at the four cardinal points (very roughly).
Outside of this area there is usually nothing going on. You fly you ship
across this chessboard selling and fighting. If I described the game that way
to someone I honestly believe they wouldn't be able to tell which of their
four games I was referring to. The thing that makes it apart from the
graphics, which are superb, are the fan made scripts especially the
artificical life ones.

X2 was pretty boring after the first 30+ hours in. I still prefer
X-Tensions to X2 just for the nostalgia factor. (X-BTF too). X-T and
X-2 are pretty much like BCM and UC. Same game, different graphics.

If X3 is the same, then I'll prolly wait till it's bargin-bin and pick
it up for $9.99
