Hi,
Please, before purchasing X3, take a LONG look at the forums on the
site. I purchased my copy a couple of weeks ago and even after patch
1.2.01 it freezes, stutters etc etc.
Although the tech support on the forums is encouraging, they all too
often resort to telling people that they have a problem with their
machine, rather than the game having any issues.
Many people upgraded to 1.2.01, found it was much worse than 1.2 but
then found, to their astonishment, that the 1.2 patch had been removed
from the site ! So there's no going back for them then.
There are SO many issues with the game that the cavalier attitude of
releasing the game because the distributors HAD to release it is
frustrating and annoying.
One example is the manual; when a poster stated that there are many
options in the manual that are not in the game, the response they got
(to paraphrase) was "the manual was for X2 and we changed it a bit -
stuff got taken out but we had already brought the manual out so its
wrong now" (this is added to the fact there is no *newer* manual online
(although there is of course a FAQ).
Posters have complained about trade descriptions; that the product does
not work as advertised. Many users have several high end games, have a
fantastic gaming rig, and yet Egosoft are still saying they must have
problems with their machine.
I do believe, by patch 1.4 or so, that Egosoft will have produced a
great game, like X2, that will be enjoyable and played by many - no
issues there at all. However, the process of releaseing a substandard
game because of all of the graphics issues and incorrect manual will
not go unnoticed. Next time they release a game, if another space-sim
is being offered by another company then I will buy the other one.
Bring on ELITE 4 !!! >> Stay informed about: X3 - AVOID IT RIGHT NOW |

Game seems to be an absolutely HUGE memory hog, I reckon most peoples
stutters are down to having 512Mb or less. the game takes over 1Gb.
Egosoft claim that the next patch will make it more memory efficient -
I'm not going to hold my breath.
Can't imagine why they need all that ram, lots of recent games run well
with a much smaller memory footprint.
Sloppy coding is my guess.

Yea I purchased it straight through Egosoft, got the book with it which was
less than fantastic but more than just ok.
I've seen it in 2 EB's here in Perth now, lots of them actually, I'm talking
big shelf space, which was a surprise!

Not interested in either of those things, thanks. No story = no game.
It's just a flight sim. That's not exactly "Privateer" you know...

Why should it? X2 is, hands down, the worst space game I ever played.
And since I played every space game ever made on the PC, that's pretty
bad. How much better is X3 than X2? >> Stay informed about: X3 - AVOID IT RIGHT NOW |

And nothing to do with the number of "in play" elements at the same
time? The ongoing background AI? The huge play areas? You're showing
off is my guess. >> Stay informed about: X3 - AVOID IT RIGHT NOW |
