For some reason everyone always says No Mercy on the Nintendo 64, but
that was just a rip off of Wrestlemania 2000, and that was just a rip
off of those WCW VS NWO games.
Anyways I go with Wrestlemania 2000 since it came out at just the
perfect time.
The game was really good and it didn't take itself too seriously like
todays wrestling games.
It was just easy enough that anyone could play but just hard enough
that not anyone could just win.
The game had one of the best creat a wrestler modes ever. The games
of today need to go back to the old formula. Or some other videogame
company needs to just rip it off and use it for their wrestling game.
I hope the TNA game is a rip off of Wrestlemania 2000.

but No Mercy took WM2000 and improved on it. It had better graphics, more
options, improved CAW mode and backstage areas you could wrestle in.
Is it really ripping off something if you made the originals?

People say No Mercy because it is the best of the THQ-published AKI
games. While it certainly is just an evolution of the games before it,
it added a lot to the mix that made it a more complete and more fun
package.
You mention the create-a-wrestler aspect (which I find most important
in any wrestling game)... No Mercy had by far the best CAW of the AKI
games.
The Fire Pro Wrestling series in Japan had the best CAW, though. The
gameplay was also superior in that series to anything else but it was
hard for people because of the timing aspect (rather than the button
mashing aspect).
I found the AKI games to be much more fun, though. >> Stay informed about: Best Wrestling Videogame Of All Time? |

It's not bad but it's not great. The THQ AKI games blow away anything
that came out in this and the last generation without any question as
far as gameplay.
If AKI could create a wrestling game with those old mechanics and
today's graphics, I'd be playing that for a year at least. >> Stay informed about: Best Wrestling Videogame Of All Time? |

Actually, WCW vs. NWO was a US version of Japan's Virtua Pro Wrestler,
while WM 2000 and No Mercy were US versons of Virtua Pro Wrestler 2 with
No Mercy tightening up the graphics quite a bit.
Do the WWE games still take the CAW a little too far (at least IMHO) in
adding control for the size of various body parts?

I agree. Remove the loading times and it's even better. The big
advantage the n64 had for us wrestling fans is that it took a mere
second to get going with a match. Now, you wait and wait. I honestly
wish some sort of development could be made to really get rid of load
times in games. >> Stay informed about: Best Wrestling Videogame Of All Time? |
