So I bought a SoundBlaster X-Fi Platinum. A nice present to myself. I bought
it as I figured I wanted more db going to my speakers, as well as having
read many reviews that say: yes, this thing is really worth it.
All I can say is yes, yes it is.
I've been playing VGAP for 6 or so years now and have heard the race music a
gazillion times. I think I'm one of the few who actually have never turned
it off. I like my VGAP music. I wish there was more. Up until I got the X-Fi
I was using the standard onboard realtek 97 audio (with 7.1 channels) found
on most motherboards these days. Never would I ever think that midi music
created years ago would be enhanced by a sound card. I'd have figured the
realtek audio 97 would be able to play it as best it can be played.
I was wrong. I just listened to the Crystals anthem for example and heard
bits of organ in a clarity I've never heard before. It sounded superb!
Anyways. This is starting to sound like an advertisement. And no, I don't
hold stock in creative.

Perhaps a turtle beach card might be just as
good. I don't know. I do know though, that your VGAP music experience can be
enhanced by buying a really good sound card. Who'd have thunk it. Not I.
Just a tip for all!
