I'm a Usenet veteran and thought I was pretty thick skinned until I posted
on the WoW forums.

Trying to get a serious answer is imposible and maybe it's me, but I have
trouble understanding what they are saying.

Some of the posts are downright creepy (die in a fire) (/wrists) and some of
very disturbing. This whenyou merely ask a question. (L2P Nub)

Most of the terms they use and cryptic spelling, I just don't get it.

Maybe time to retire once and for all?

Just some thoughts.

I am not a big fan of the forums at all. There seems to be an awful
lot of "cry more" or "l2p" type posts. Yes there are some good
threads in there, and there are some helpful people, but trying to
filter them out from the rest of the threads / people is not worth it.

One other thing that annoys me is the whole "first" thing, where
people seem desperate to be the first poster after a blizzard employee
has posted a message. Oh, and the whole "reserved" thing, where
they have nothing to contribute right there and then, so reserve a spot
to post later because it is near the start of the thread or because it
is right after a "blue" post.

All in all, I do read the forums occasionally, but will probably never
post there. This newsgroup seems a much better place.

The maturity of the posts on WoW forums reflects the maturity of the
people that use it.

The WoW forums are generally absolutely pathetic in the quality of
posts.

That's one of the reasons I can't stand web boards--no filtering.

Hang out here; the atmosphere is pretty easygoing as usenet groups go, and
on the rare occasions someone does post a "lol noob" type response, you
can easily killfile them.

We are (generally)friendly and we try to avoid to much cryptic jargon !
and we have lot's of great experts with knowledge on a hundred little
known facets of WoW life!

So, what was your question?

find it kind of funny myself.

A new player asks a question and Mr 'I play 24 hours a day and pwn all'
posts 'L2P' and presumeably thinks he is the
coolest thing on the planet for his response.

I see it on general though in-game, new players ask where a mob is or
something and get a pile of sarcastic
replies in response, i remember when i got my first char to level 40 i
couldnt find my summon mount icon, and
hadnt checked my pack so i asked on general. Ok pretty dumb question, but i
had one guy spam me with
'lol noooob lolololol nooob' for about 20 mins untill i worked out how to
/ignore.
having said that some people are helpfull, i find rp servers are better
overall.

In contrast this place seems a lot friendlier, has helped me an awful lot

The WoW forums are awful - the european ones are slightly better, in that
you can actually get sone sensible discussion going from time to time but
the american ones look so bad when I read them - I wouldn't ever read them
if the official info that gets posted there filtered through to ours more
often. In the end this place is *much* better if you've got a question or
anything you want to discuss Smile
