Probably old news but I've just discovered that there are a load of useful
WoW add-ons that improve the game interface in different ways. For instance
AllInOneInventory from http://www.wowwiki.com/AllInOneInventory.

Here is where to find some other add-ons:

http://www.wowaddons.com
http://www.wowinterface.com
http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod

From one of the gamefaqs faqs, Cosmos and CTMod are supposed to be good:

cosmos is a great add on for WoW. It adds so many extra functions some of
which you'll never touch and many which you'll find invaluable.

Be careful which version you download. Add ons have to be matched to the
version number of the game and currently the european servers are a patch
ahead of the US servers so the version numbers are different.

There is a european retail version of cosmos available but its not in the
download section of the website.

I've uploaded a zip of it (unchanged from the version i downloaded) to my
webspace

www.azzuri.myby.co.uk/Cosmos_11_02_05.zip

point this to your world of warcraft folder and it'll create the files in
the right folder.

It is easy to make them compatible by opening the add-on .toc file in Notepad
and changing the interface number to 4211.

Do any of these mods have any documentation? How will I know what to do
with them once they're installed? I understand some of the bits they
do, like adding extra toolbars, but not all....

Cosmos is the main one. Its like an uber-mod that adds a huge list of
new toolbars, and customisation options. To be honest i think thats
all you really need, anything else is overkill.

Well, using the one Azzuri posted, I've had some of the options become
stuck on, and had both my mouse buttons lock up (though that may well
just have been an ingame thing), requiring an alt+F4 to kill the game.
On a positive note, when I relaunched I was in exactly the same place
with all my stuf, which was nice.

Hmm, my Wow's really unstable as it is, so I'm not sure I'll try any mods.

But do any of them let you have, say, two action bars on screen at once?

I have been very impressed with the amount of stuff that Cosmos offers.
Amongst the gazillion other things, it can show another action bar at
the bottom right, which can double up to another on mouseover, an action
bar on the left, an action bar on the right and so on (all optional).

I like the left and right action bars a lot.

I think, anyway. I only saw them for five minutes.

The clock at the top of the screen is useful, too.

Isn't there a clock always available, though? By mouseovering the 'time
of day' icon?

I'm still not fully clear on what this does. I think I want a nice few
screenshots of the interface in action, but those seem to be few and far
between. Could you knock some up?

Yes, but it's nicer to have it always visible, otherwise I'd probably be
playing until 3am. And it gives you nice (if possibly inaccurate) stats
when you hover over it.

Up in the top left you can see a damage indicator whoeing how much DPS
I'm doing. In the middle you can see a clock. You can see new action
bars on the left and right and at the bottom of the screen.

What you can't see are the other action bars you can have (I've taken
them off for now), the map notes (great feature, allows you to mark your
map and then send that note to another player) and alarms and alerts and
mini-games and a whole lot of other things I've not actually explored
yet. There are a lot of options.

I like to keep my interface as minimalistic as possible so that I have a
nice big viewing area. All ive really used cosmos for is for the extra
buttons in the middle and the clock.

I use several other add-ons which aren't openly visible:

GrudgeList - This is a PVP addon and you can add names of alliances players
in here so that if you target them again or move your mouse over them it'll
make a noise and put a big message on screen letting you know someone you
have a grudge against is about. It's handy for remembering people that you
will go out of your way to kill Smile

UseByName - this add on allows you to create macros that refer to items by
their name. Many other add ons require this macro installed to work. My
weaponswap macro uses this and I also have made a bandage macro that will
select the best bandage i have and use it without me having to target myself
etc

WeaponQuickSwap - This add on alows you to create "sets" of weapons and
change between them at the press of a key.

For example

set1 - Dagger, Dagger,
set2 - Sword, Dagger
set3, Mace, Sword

and all you have to do is bind the macro to a key and it'll cycle through in
each order. I use this alot as a rogue.

SellList - This now appears to be in cosmos although in a slightly less
functional way. everytime you go to a vendor it records how much items will
sell for so when you loot them you can see how much it sells for. This is
handy as bag space is always an issue so you can delete the cheap stuff.
