Post subject: WoW Crashing. Help, Please.
Archived from groups: alt>games>warcraft (more info?)

I've been running WoW without problems for over 6 months. Today, I visited
an online seller but could not complete my transaction without installing
Java (and Google Tool Bar with it). My problem started immediately
afterwards.

I can run around Stormwind as usual, without problem, but as soon as I try
to access something, like the Post Box, or Auctioneer, the programme (but
not the computer) crashes immediately. The error message is:
Error #132
The Instructions at 0x006BD99E referenced memory at 0x22EDB004. The memory
could not be "written".

I first uninstalled Jave and Google Toolbar. No change.
Then restored my system to a week ago. No change.
Ran Adaware and deleted a few data miners. No change.
I turned the computer off for two hours, then rebooted (to see if it was
heat related), but WoW crashed as before.

Other programmes seem to function normally, after WoW has crashed.

I'm running Windows XP
Processor AMD ATHLON 64x2 Dual Core Processor 4400.
L2 cache 128 KP
Memory 2,048 MB
Main board ASUSTeK A8N5X
Video Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT

Can anyone offer any advice, please?

Running any addons? Updating them might help.

Auctioneer is an add-on, do you also use an add-on to manage your mail? If
so, you might try re-setting your World of Warcraft user interface.
http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowgm/?id=agm02060p

You can always try the 'repair' function for WoW - in case something
interfered with files used by World of Warcraft.

If you are thinking that something nasty might have hitchhiked along with
the Java and the Google toolbar, you might want to try additional
spyware/adware detection and removal.

Download and install spybot search and destroy.
http://www.safer-networking.org/
This program has found several nasty spyware programs and managed to remove
them from my system.

That's about all I can think of at the moment. Post back if you still have
problems.

Over the top of the existing installation, or should I uninstall everything?
I dread having to redownload all the extras as I only have a half meg
connection.

Oh no no no. Do not try to re-download all the updates. That would be a
nightmare, and a very long process - even IF you have The Burning Crusade
disks. The World of Warcraft repair procedure should work for you. If you DO
decide to uninstall/reinstall, at the very least copy the patches - they are
in the program files main folder for world of warcraft and also in a folder
called patches underneath the main folder.

I can't find a 'game folder'. I have cache, Data, errors, interface, logs,
patches, WoW -1.12x to 2.0.1 etc and WTF. None of these contain a
sub-directory resembling 'game'.

The poster was referring to the actual World of Warcraft folder in the
program files directory (the one that contains the Cache, Data, Interface
and other folders). After the uninstall, deleting that folder would ensure
ALL DATA from your install is gone, and that your new install is clean. I
*DO NOT* agree with that advice, as you would lose everything in your
history (your auctioneer data, your macros, your channel options - every
modification you made in the last six months) as well as all the patch
information.

Try a repair and a reset to the user interface first.

There is a well know bug for Auctioneer that crashes WoW. You might have
some corrupted data in its database, and whenever one of your addons try
look the items with corrupted data, WoW will crash.

Try to disable Auctioneer and other addons, that uses it's database
before doing any reinstall. You might just have to delete the database
(or remove the corrupted data if you can identify it).

Auctioneer even have an option for clearing the database, so you don't
even have to reinstall it.

Many thanks to everyone who has offered advice. It turns out to be
corrupted Auctioneer data, which I have now sorted out thanks to the helpful
advice received here.

Many Thanks,
Rona.

There was no mention of buying gold.

Only that she visited an online 'seller' - a description which most likely
means a retailer such as Amazon or Apple (again, an assumption).

True, but I read it as being a gold vendor as well, given the context,
and I've never come across a legitimate online retailer that needed
browser add-ons. Sounds like it was a co-incidence that Auctioneer got
corrupted at around the same time.

Java applets are common in webstores. Oftentimes Java gets downloaded along
with Google Toolbar, unless you are careful to uncheck the box that asks if
you want the toolbar as well.

Possibly. Re-setting the UI and repairing WoW would ensure that any problems
are not related to the game itself. The addons could be restored one by one
to check if any specifically caused the problem.

iTunes Store? Granted it doesn't require an addon - rather a full
application.

Although there are many other large sites out there that require Flash
and/or Java to be installed.
