Considering the competition, it should be a shoo-in.....

See:-

http://news.filefront.com/the-witcher-up-for-writers-guild-award/

A movie based on The Witcher and the book from which it was derived
would be so much better than movies based on Resident Evil, Doom3, AvP
etc. and all that drek.... imho, of course.

BTW, the game intro sequence is a classic. Terrific production values,
stellar graphics and animation. Beautifully-voiced, relevant and
suitably sinister narrator voice-over ( at least on the English PC
version ) and directly relevant to the theme(s) of the game itself.
Top of my personal list of video-game intros.

The world must be coming to the end, I actually agree with Lewis and
am playing the game right now, about 20 hours in. It is a RPG with
some action elements but it really excels as an RPG. For me, it is
loads better than Oblivion. The story is a little odd and while set in
a mythical 13th century, the dialogue is like 1980's hipster. Somehow,
the combination is amusing and entertaining. I could just never get
into Oblivion, it seemed like so much was disconnected and the side
missions ended up just being boring. Witcher has quite a story going
on and the side quests are varied but still tie in well with the main
story line. The real time dynamic environments are really well done,
day into night, sunny to rainy, people out in the middle of the day,
in their beds at night, monsters and assassins as creatures of the
night. Witcher didn't get a lot of hype but it is being recognized on
its own, which is the way good video games should be. This is a really
good direction for action RPG's to take.

I really enjoyed it, but didn't finish it as it was a bit jerky on my
system - I'm waiting for a new gfx card before reinstalling.

Great game, though.

More gore for the most part. If it weren't for the heads rolling after
decapitating an enemy in the UK version, I'm not sure I would have
even realized their heads had been severed, as the blow happens pretty
quickly, and the body usually falls in a manner where you can't really
tell.

There is apparently more nudity in the UK version, but I haven't
gotten that far in the game yet. As I understand it, the biggest
difference is in how much is displayed on the "trading cards" the main
character collects from his conquests.

My morals would allow me to buy that and download the European version. Not
suggesting any body should follow my evil ways though.

You DISGUST me. Would you intentionally break into the game developers'
homes and take the food from their children's plates too? Even when their
mom cooked their FAVORITE meal that night, you would just scoop all of it
off their plate and eat it right in front of them while they cried?

That is EXACTLY what you're doing when you download the european version
after buying the american version. You may as well launch a genocidal
nuclear strike against 4 continents simultaneously. You sicken me!

Actually Gogamer is just out of stock. They have been selling the
non-censored version (I)mported from the UK ever since the game was
released.

Odd that they should use the words "release date: Jan 21" and "
preorder" on their site. I was aware the game was out in the US for
quite some time but wasn't sure if the Eur. version had shipped or
not.

Who cares... I've downloaded the Booby version and shall fire it up
sometime in the near future. Boobys! Boobys!

Gee.. I am so tired of this "Pang" vs everybody else nonsense in this
thread.

Mr "Pang" and the others need to understand that in the SPECIFIC CASE
of The Witcher, the elimination of the "adult" content does not affect
the core artistic integrity of the game at all. The adult contents of
this game are mere "tillilation" add-ons. They do not affect the
story-line, or the outcome of various encounters. Afaik, there has
been zero elimination of any story-line or side-quest elements. As
some correlative evidence, note that the current V1.2 patch is
applicable to ALL versions of the game.

Oh, for Mr. Pang, on the subject of The Witcher "censored" version
being $20 less, this is purely a "loss-leader" exercise for a very
limited time by Gogamer. The normal retail price of the US version at
Gogamer has been $47.99 ( and the UK version was $49.99, before the
stock ran out) BTW, at Gogamer the UK version was top of their
internal PC sales charts for the past couple of weeks - so there were
obviously those in the US who did not want to rip off the developer by
torrent downloading.

And another point for Mr Pang -- the only people really hurt by your
torrent download instead of purchase of the "uncensored" version from
Gogamer is Gogamer themselves. I'm sure that the $29.99 currently
charged by Gogamer in their "Madness Sale" is well below their cost of
their present in-house stock.
