Chaotic human wizard, gone as deep as the vally of death and currently
camping on an altar on DL:21.

This is the first character that im attempting extinctionism with, and
im finding myself wondering what I want to wish for. RNG has blessed me
with a 0.3 /oW in the valley of death to go with my 0.3 /oW from the
castle, and I havnt used either yet. So thats a total of 14 wishes I
have availiable to me. 2 I'll be using for speed boots and gauntlets of
dexterity since I havnt found either and I'll be leaving one of them at
1.1 mimimum for security. So that leaves 10 wishes I can use for
anything.

Magic markers dosnt seem like a useful choice since I got 3 already and
will likely get more from polypiling. I wont be genociding any monster
that can be made extinct so any scrolls of genocide I need for the
non-extinctable monsters wont be hard to come by.

The only spellbook I really need now is polymorph, which I can do
without just find for now. With very few spells still missing from my
catalogue I should be getting it soon from my prayer camping.

A pet Archon might be a possibility, but other then that I cant think
of anything else.

Also im wondering, is magicbane pretty much the only good weapon I can
use as a chaotic wizard? Due to restrictions in alot of weapons all
other artifacts seem useless.

How about a nice big stack of silver daggers? you want at least 10, I
reckon. They're very handy, and a bugger to acquire through polypiling.
My last game I shuddered something in the region of a thousand arrows
(in stacks of 5 or less) to yield only about 4 silver daggers.

Otherwise, start wishing up other ppls' quest artifacts: something with
spare MR would be nice, or one of the 'half physical damage' ones.

And 3 magic markers ain't that much: You can always use more- I mean,
when you've got 30 or 40 silver dragon hides kicking about, the chances
of getting at least one of them past +5 are pretty good, but it takes a
*lot* of scrolls. Same with daggers- I mean +7 is nice and all, but why
settle when you can try to push some of the spares to +8 or +9 or even
further? Then there's all the reverse genocide scrolls you'll be
wanting - there's probably 3 markers' worth there alone.

Of course, in a way the whole thread is redundant. An extinctionist
doesn't *need* to wish for anything. He just has to be patient. Sooner
or later, whatever it is you want will drop at your feet in a gory pool
of monster innards.

[snip really really good advice ;-]

Forgot to say: Wish for an icebox to keep by your altar. I always like
to have one at my stash, with a few /oUT and some corpses inside:
- Keep a load of big monster corpses and unicorns handy in case your
god ever needs to be mollified.
- Freeze newts, so you can eat them later when your mana count is at
maximum.
- Wraithcicles are very good things to have, either for yourself or
your pet.
- Keep a miscellaneous stash of small critters on ice for quick "can I
pray yet?" sacrifices.
- Stash a few puddings in there, on the off-chance you ever feel like
farming.
- Spare 'intrinsic' corpses (floating eyes etc) in case you need to
replace them..

Of course I generally play [s], where there are cheaper means of
acquiring fridges..

A few Archons with Create Monster spell is required if you want to do
it faster.

You're chaotic, so it makes things a bit more tricky, but I would try
to go for the Eyes of the Overworld. If you're going for extincting
everything, you're bound to run into a a least a few archons, and
their gaze can be annoying.

I would also consider the Master Key - might as well, and half
damage never hurt anyone.

Other than that - go for magic markers.

Spellbooks you'll get from the endless sacrificing you'll be doing.

Um... yeah... That's exactly what I meant... Thank you for making
the "little tricky" part clearer.

This part was only suggested as a "less tricky" suggestion. If you're
going for Neutral anyway go with the Orb, otherwise you might as well
just go with the Key.

Thanks for the correction.

Go wishless! Show the RNG who's the boss. Really, spell of polymorph is
all you need to get speed boots and gauntlets of dexterity.

You'll get the +Charm in some point of the game, then you can just charm
any Archon you see.

Magicbane is the way to go, magic missile is the weapon of choice. Or if a
flayer get's too close, FoD.

I did mine extinctionist wishless and genoless: http://tinyurl.com/y5yzep

I was thinking of counting on my camping with create monster/polying to
get those. I figure at the bare minimum I'll use 20,000 turns of create
monster to gather scrolls (and anything else) I'll need, then go on a
poly spree before I head into hell. Even if then I dont have enough
scrolls to get +7 armour, I really dont need it yet. On my combat
wombats I only had +4 and +5 armour and the only time I took enough
damage that I needed to heal was on the end games.

You learn something new every day, I knew they kept corpses safe to eat
but I didnt know that kept them good for sacrificing too. Awesome. But
im not going to use a wish for one of those when I get get one easily
through polypiling.

Too late, I had used a magic lamp wish in the mines for SDSM Wink

The quest is over with, so converting is a possibility. Though the idea
of doing it dosnt sit that well. Then again those quest artifacts are
pretty tempting... I know I lose divine protection I get from priests
when I kill them but will I lose it if I convert?

By "a bit more tricky" you mean "requires a permanent conversion to
neutral," since a chaotic character can never get neutral from a helm of
opposite alignment. Of course, if you've finished the quest, a permanent
conversion to Neutral is not a bad idea; your artifact selection is a
lot better, if you feel like wishing for artifacts.

It's not a bad idea, but I'd just go Neutral and wish for the Orb if
I wanted half damage.

Go with items that have 0 probability. Fedora, cheap plastic imitation
Amulet, non-artifact athame, scalpel, non-artifact runesword or
tsurugi,
yumi, rubber hose. All for completeness.

Dogscoff suggested a stack of silver daggers. Definitely for their
utility.
Great since you are already at Expert; they can replace your big stack
of highly enchanted fireproof elven daggers.

Agreed; I actually do think converting to neutral would be a good idea,
personally. But I would have started the wizard neutral; there are
advantages to being chaotic as well..

Oh, I figured you knew that it required a conversion; I just wanted to
make sure it was clear to the OP and anyone else reading, since I had
to stop and think for a second.

So, you're welcome, I guess Smile

The Eye. Which, from what I understand, makes no sense for an
extinctionist. Don't even think about it.

I dont have any throwing daggers with me. So far magic missile, FoD and
magicbane have been doing just fine. Do I need them for some specific
magic resistance monsters or something?

I've decided im going to stay chaotic and not wish for any artifacts.
Partly due to there have been a plethora of artifacts already generated
so the odds arnt good of getting one. Second I think it will make
things too easy and want to kept at least that conduct intact. Perhaps
even keep genocide conduct too. I dont really need to genocide the non
extinctable, they arnt generated so once they're dead they're dead.

I used one wish for a pet archon the other day, but it was hostile when
I (a)pplied it. Perhaps because it was friday the 13th. So I stoned it
and brought it back once I got charm monster. Then not 1000 turns later
he got engulfed by a trapper -.-

Not to worry, I was lucky enough to get an altar between medusas lair
and the castle, so I have a camping altar when I dont want to get
archons and one for when I do. So the first extinction respectable
archon is now my pet ^_^

Still no luck with spell of poly. But I only got that one and cone of
cold left, and I still got 6000 turns left of create monster, being
level 30 it shouldnt be a problem.

I got poly spell and poly'd myself my speed boots and gauntlets of
dexterity, which freed up those wishes. RNG decided to spoil me even
more with ANOTHER /oW, 0.1 while combing the mines. With one wish from
one of the 0.3 wands used up, an unused 0.3 and a 0.1 I now have 18
wishes at my disposal. Minimum of 2 of them being emergency, I got 16
wishes that I can use for anything. I want to keep artifact wishing and
genocide conduct and Im overflowing with magic markers and anything
else you can think of. Why cant this have happened on my combat
wombats! >_>

I think RNG is trying to catch me off guard so it can screw me over
somehow.

Oh and my second archon got killed by a purple worm. >_>
