Fallout 1 and Windows 2000

I can't manage to install a copy of Fallout (v1.0) on my Windows 2000
computer after finally deciding to try and play it again. I haven't
tried a method I saw elsewhere, but if I can't find out here, I'll
probably have to try.

I get the error: "Sorry, this version of Windows is not supported by
this product." when I try to run setup.exe.

I try running _setup.exe off the CD, and it goes to the installer, but
it says my C:\ drive has between 20 - 100 MB available, and I have 10
GB open.

Any suggestions to let the installer know the right amount or just run
correctly?

And before anyone responds, remember, Windows 2000 does NOT have the
compatibility mode options like Windows XP does.

I probably should have mentioned that someone informed me on how to
enable and use compatibility mode in Windows 2000, something I was
entirely unaware of because I never see it discussed anywhere except
here.

Using the compatibility mode method, it installed fine.

For reference:

] Search "Windows 2000 Compatiblity Mode" on google or
] run command "regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll", which
] activates Compatiblity mode of Windows 2000.

compatiblity
] mode, but WIndows 2000 have had numerous compatibility updates.

Note, that only an Administrator account can actually set a
compatibility mode for any shortcut to an exe, which is annoying when
you aren't using an Administrator account.
