This brings up another area of gripe for me. Judging from the current
console's storage space, none of them are really designed for
downloading games with original redbook audio and playing them. Sure,
the audio files could be compressed and they could write something that
would let them play while compressed, but we'd still be looking at
anywhere from 40MB all the way up to 200MB. Size issues aside, I doubt
that the companies would bother to figure out any kind of universal way
to compress the games' audio in order to make the library theoretically
available for download.
If they're too lazy to consider the incredible stupidity of allowing
infinite continues on an arcade game with respawning (rather than
restarting a segment), they they're too lazy to mess with notoriously
wasteful CD-ROM games.

Companies that are already preparing downloadable content for the 360
will make it for the Wii as well. Unless the userbase shifts heavily
to only one of the new consoles the companies won't bother to support
the unique demographics of each unless it's going to cost them money. >> Stay informed about: Wii Virtual Console Genesis list |
