It's not a very exciting one, looks like Sega is going for the easiest
stuff they've already ported to countless systems (badly). Hopefully
the emulation will at least be correct for these. Judgeing from the
list, I doubt that this downloadable content idea will ever result in
replacing my collection or my buying habits for the actual consoles and
games, I just don't think they're ever going to get all of the stuff up
there.

I wouldn't count on it. For one thing, I doubt they'll get the
resolution right given the systems limitations for displaying true low
res. In any case if faithful emulation is what you're after, my friend
uses his Xbox with some software I'm not familiar with that does the
job really well, even for other classic systems like SNES. >> Stay informed about: Wii Virtual Console Genesis list |

Emulation aside, the appeal of the VC is supposed to be comparison of
scores among friends. That goes a ways towards explaining the choice of
available games too, as a lot of the RPG and stranger platform titles
don't really have any kind of numerical mechanism to measure progress.

Even better than emulation? I happen to own one of the old Honeybee floppy
drive units that plugs into the top of a first-run Megadrive.
Incidentally, that Xbox emulator is a port of one of the better PC
versions, GENS if I'm not mistaken.

Naw, I'm just assuming they're using emulation. I'd rather see a
port than emulation myself, something that has somebody playing the
original and then playing the port even more to make sure everything is
the same. I think KKC is right, they're going to focus on numbers games
and they are not going to bring anything over that wasn't already
localize back in the day. That pretty much eliminates my interest in
the thing, I've never cared about high scores or competing. Playing
something like SOR 2 online with one of you guys would be pretty darned
cool though...

So the Wii Virtual Console Genesis list will ultimately be all Sega-made or
Sega-produced Genesis games with no hope of third party Genesis games?
Will this also turn out to be a similar issue for Nintendo's own
back-catalog of their older consoles' games (i.e., only Nintendo-made or
Nintendo-produced games)? >> Stay informed about: Wii Virtual Console Genesis list |

Hmm, well since this is emulation I don't see why not but from the
pricing scheme being based on the "generation" of the game, ie NES
(cheapest), SNES (more expensive than NES), N64 (most expensive) I
don't see any reason why games from other consoles being 32-bit or less
can't or won't be done.

I would imagine that a great deal of content will be Nintendo's own
backcatalog of games and rightfully so. It should be a certainty that
titles from at least the big third parties like Konami, Capcom, etc,
won't have a fair amount of games available eventually. It will be
interesting to see if they release any titles from lesser known and/or
defunct publishers, say a Vic Tokai or Sunsoft for example. >> Stay informed about: Wii Virtual Console Genesis list |
