Problem: Nintendo's thumbsticks have octagonal rims. This is good for
games like Trauma Center and Metroid Prime 3 where you want the stick to
"lock" in position. This is not good for NiGHTS which favors smooth
circles.

Prompting: a blog article I read.

Materials: one spare Nunchuck, a 1.5mm screwdriver, a 1" ball grinder, a
hand drill, and 220 grit sand paper. A 1" tree/cone grinder will work,
too. I used a ball grinder because I couldn't find a tree.

The hardest step is getting the tri-wing screws out. Once those are out
the casement halves can be easily separated. Slowly grind down the stick
rim until the corners are just barely gone. This step took me about 5
minutes. Smooth with 220 grit sand paper. Reassemble and enjoy NiGHTS the
way it was meant to be played.
