I just got my Wii Component cables from Nintendo and plugged it into my
Wii and TV. I am not getting any color, just a black and white screen.
I know that the component works on my TV because I have used the
gamecube component cable before. Has anyone had any problems with the
Wii component cables?

Had the cables plugged properly, double checked it when I noticed the
problem. I didn't make the changes to the Wii though. Will try that
tonight.

No, mine looks great. I got mine yesterday as well, and was surprised that
they came in an actual retail box. Did you go into your Wii setup and make
sure you had either 480i or 480p (if you have a EDTV or HDTV) selected? I
also don't mean to be condescending, but if you have the cables plugged into
the wrong holes you'll get a mucked-up picture as well.

Yeah that's my next option.

It's not that unusual for video cables to be bad right out of the box. Easy
enough to check, just try them on another TV.

I got mine, and have been playing in 480p and 16:9, instead of the 480i
and 4:3 that I was using before. Tennis and golf look a lot better, but
I'm not very impressed with bowling. When looking down the lane at the
pins, they are more blocky and less distinct at 16:9 than they were at
4:3, and when it shows replays, the jaggies are a lot more noticeable.

I'm thinking of switching back to 4:3 whenever I want to play bowling.

Anyone else notice this?

Well I unplugged the cable from my TV and re-inserted them, giving them
a slight twist as I inserted them. Lo and behold, the color showed up.
Glad I don't have to send them back Smile

Just got my new Wii and I'm having the same problem with a black and white screen.

However my Wii came in from Florida and I'm using it the UK. On the country settings there is no setting for the UK so I have no alternative but to use USA.

Can anyone tell me if the US Wii is not compatible with the UK. It works fine, but everything is in black and white!! Might try and buy another cable but I wondered if anyone could help me, or point me in the right direction?

Many thanks

Martin
