Anyone else notice in the new White Dwarf, the one with the new 40K Orks
in it, that the battle report didn't follow the force org chart?

They had TWO Ork armies of 1000 points each against an IMHO very poorly
constructed 2000 point Ultramarine force. I mean come on... Assault
squad x2? You think you needed jump packs in case the Orks were too
slow? And THREE HQ, one of which was a Big Mek with Shokk Attack Gun? I
know you wanted to get them in there, but one Warboss and the Big Mek
would have been enough.

(Queue Gomer Pyle) Surprise, surprise, surprise!

The Orks won.



What my Ultramarine army would have looked like:

Whirlwind
Land Raider Crusader

x6 Tac Squad 10 men w/Flamer and Heavy Bolter

Master of Sanctity w/Terminator Armor
Terminator Assault Squad x5 Lightning Claws

Epistolary w/Veil of Time and Fury of the Ancients

Now tell me that one would not have turned out different...

Actually, it was more of an 1100/900 split, in order to get 3 HQ and 7
Troops. I thought it was a bad sign that they basically created the
Orks in such a way that you can't do many viable 2000 point forces
without using more than one FOC (because 30-Ork mobs filling up six
slots are NOT viable), and the Nobz and Dreads being Troops depending
on HQ aren't helping.

The thing I thought was stupid (other than the Marine player) was the
way they talked up the SAG. "Model of the match" and all that! From
the skimming I did, it killed 5 Assault Marines, scattered, killed 4
Tactical Marines, and teleported the Mek into close combat. Yeah,
that's just so awesome, I can hardly contain my excitement!

The Ork army had some goofy ideas in it (like 10 Grots?!?), but
overall I liked the concept - hard-hitting mobile force to tie up the
Marines, large footslogger force to get stuck in behind them.

But the Marine list... quite simply stupid. Assault Marines should
have been 10 Devs with four heavy bolters.

That's going to be one of my Ork lists. 60 Stormboyz or as close to it
as I can get with footsloggers bringing up the rear.

Or two five man squads with four each. That list looked like the creator
was trying to lose. Now they wouldn't do that, would they? Razz

Its the new rule with Batreps in WD: The army dejur MUST have all the new
models included in its list, and it must go up against the most poorly
conceived list imaginable. Case in point: the recent HE vs Night Goblin
battle.
