I suspect this is due to some hack, but I've just noticed that my Sims no
longer stay at work or school when I enter a lot.

That is, say I saved the game while a sim or two were at work or at school.
Then exited. The next time I enter, those sims are home again, instead of
away.

This results in a lot of missing works and schools.

Any ideas which ones could be doing this? I hate to go through my entire
folder

Do you have all the expansions installed? I had this problem after I
installed University, I had no hacks. It went away after I installed
Nightlife, after I installed Open for business all my sims are
gathered around the mailbox every time I load.

Yes, it sounds like the lot is resetting every time you load it. It's the
sort of thing that happens when you force errors with debug mode. I think
you'd do better to solve a problem like that over at MATY. Have you tried
running the game and entering the lots with debug cheat on? And do you get
an error notice/report log? It's likely that without that you won't get
much further.

Best wishes

Ah hah! That explains why whenever I open a previously played lot, the
needs reset to maximum (except bladder for some reason). Actually, that is
a maxis bug I sort of like.

I've noticed the same thing since I installed OFB. Never did it before.
It's also almost always 10am when I enter a lot, too, which is plenty
of time to send the sims to school or work in the car. So now I
automatically pause the game, check the work schedules to be sure it's a
work/school day, then send them off in the car before they get penalized
too badly.

I don't think it's an error being reset that is causing it, because one of
the lots it happens in has a Servo that has been turned into a human (er,
sim) and usually when it's a reset, she goes back to her servo appearance.
And no error message that I've seen (I don't always use testing cheats, but
turn them on whenever the game acts weird...)

Well, nice to know I'm not alone. I do that too, but sometimes I have
noticed that the cars are gone (the ones that drive to work/school). Oh
well, just have to make sure I save when everyone is home.

It's unlikely to be the servo though I suppose it might be. If it's not an
error what do you think is resetting your lot every time then?

We've already had an example of how in game errors don't always generate
error messages with my non dying Darren Dreamer problem. Although the fact
that it is occurring across multiple houses does tend to imply that it is
more widespread than I would expect a non third party generated problem to
be. The only things that I know to cause resetting are certain mods -
Pescado's for instance often cause lot resetting - and the installation of a
new add-on. Have you considered sorting your third party content by date and
removing everything you installed around the date it went do lally on.

'Course I'm probably just telling you to do something you've already thought
of, but . . .

I have only one Servo in my whole game so I don't think it's that. By the
by, how do you turn a Servo into a Sim? One of my female characters has
really settled in with the one she built, but it is disconcerting to see
their interactions.

AgeSimsCheat on
turn the robot into a toddler. Get the skills up, then turn it into a teen.
DO NOT TURN IT INTO A CHILD; IT WILL HAVE A GRADE OF "F" AND
THE SOCIAL WORKER WILL GRAB THE KID IMMEDIATELY. Send the teen to
school, then to college. After graduation, it will go back into the town
bin, so just move it back onto the lot that your sim is living on.
You may or may not get blank faces during some of these phases, but don't
worry about that; you don't have to look at them! Nobody else chatting with
them is aware that they are faceless. This glitch is due to the fact that
they missed the CHILD phase. Once they graduate, they will have a face
again. Whenever you load that lot, and discover that your Servo is back to
robot-dress, shift + click and you will find an option to have it dress in
casual clothes. When the clothes are put back on, the robo face also turns
into a sim face again. It is quite a lot of fun; with the AgeSimsCheat on,
Maxis gave us a whole new game.
