I have played mostly magic based toons warclock, mage, paladin I just
started a Human Warrior today and want some advice. For my paladin I
have a two handed sword and also carry a shield with spike and one
hand sword and switch back and forth depending on how many mobs are on
me. For Warrior would it be better to go with one hand axe and shield
and two hand axe or stick with swords. I will be doing mostly solo pvp
with some pugs and instances but I do most of my playing in the middle
of the night when there are not a lot of people on the server. What
are some of the builds that I should think about. I have a high level
blacksmith so I will be able to keep him in the best armor for his
level. Thanks for the help and I look foreward to hearing from you
all.

The main difference between warrior and paladin for
weapons & shields is that a warrior can dual wield.
So a paladin has two choices: two-handed weapon or
shield plus weapon. A warrior gets three choices,
two-handed weapon, dual wield, or shield plus weapon.

Axe versus sword vs hammer is up to you.

Shield and weapon is definately what you want to use
if you're tanking. That is, you want maximum
survivability at the expense of DPS. If you're
soloing or doing DPS with a group, then dual wield
or two handed is better.

Whether you use two hand or dual is up to your own
preference and what your talents are. The Arms talents
tend to favor slow heavy hitting two handed weapons,
and the Fury tree favors faster dual wield. Protection
is more for shield and weapon, but it's slower to solo
this way.

With two weapons you have the opportunity for two good
weapons with stats you like, plus two enchants, two
sharpening stones, etc. Two handed weapons tend to
have more stats to compensate. I tend to use the best of
whatever I've found, so I haven't done dual wielding
on my warrior yet since I haven't found a pair that
outdoes my two-hander at my low level. Dual wield
gives Overpower more chances to be available, but
two handed weapons cause more raw damage with Overpower.
So I think it's up to your preference.

I don't think you'll get the best armor for your level
with blacksmithing at low and mid levels at least. There
just aren't that many blacksmithing items with nice stats
until you get higher level, compared to the stuff you
can get while questing or doing instances (and you can
always get better at the auction house if you have
money).

My warrior uses axes, but that's a role-playing thing. There are more
swords to choose from, so from a practical standpoint, I'd go for
swords.

For leveling, use an Arms spec with a 2-handed weapon. You should rarely
throw on your shield when soloing. The type of weapon (e.g,. axe vs. sword)
you get isn't that important, just use what's best for your level -- until
you can get weapon specialization, then use an axe.

If you're going to mainly PvP, go for an Arms spec (at least up to
Mortal Strike) and consider specializing in Maces. They seem to be the
preferred PvP weapons these days because of the stuns.

Mace specialization is truly overpowered in its current state. I'd be
surprised if it wasn't nerfed in the near future. Definitely get maces for
PVP, you won't be sorry (until they nerf it anyway).

Up to lvl 20, agreed; I used 1h+shield till the late teens not realising
what difference it would make and ouch it was slow Wink

However at 20 you can learn dual wield and from then you've got two options
- 2h weapon and Arms suits some people, dual wield and Fury suits others. I
went dual wield and Fury as I just cannot manage to like 2h weapons; I
think I've been a rogue too long to like slow weapons as it just feels so
slow waiting ages for a swing, then whoops I missed, wait another 3+
seconds... zzzz. The big hits are nice but give me speed anytime, even if
it does mean a lower hit chance Smile

I was speaking from a purely "ease-of-soloing" perspective, since I can't
speak to his personal preferences. I switched back and forth numerous times
while leveling from 2-handed Arms to dual-wield Fury. I did fine with fury,
but it requires better overall gear to achieve the same effectiveness as
Arms with a 2-hander. The same is also true for the end-game.
