Post subject: Not Warhammer, but general question about miniature wargaming clubs
Archived from groups: rec>games>miniatures>warhammer (more info?)

Sorry to intrude on a Warhammer-specific group, but this is an active
forum and you guys might be able to advise me; I cannot discover how
to contact any miniature wargaming club or group in the North Carolina
Piedmont, and I'm looking for suggestions: search terms to Google,
categories in the Yellow Pages, or anything else that could help me
find a nearby group.

I built up and partly painted several collections of miniatures in the
'80s that I have lugged around through several residences where I have
not had the room to unpack them and set up a space for primer-painting
them and spreading out painting stands. I have four sets: 1/72nd
fantasy (D&D), 1/72nd ancients, 1/72nd WWII, and 1/285 WWII.

I am preparing to move again, and it is just time to cut loose from as
many of the old possessions as possible, so I want to sell or donate
these. I need to find a club or organization in North Carolina (or
southern Virginia or eastern Tennessee, or maybe even N. Georgia or NW
S. Carolina) that I could donate these to.

Here are descriptions and photographs of what I am offering, to give
you an idea of the kinds of of groups I might be looking for:

http://winstonsalem.craigslist.org/tag/547053077.html

http://winstonsalem.craigslist.org/tag/547050099.html

I just want to get rid of these, but I really cannot bear to just
throw them away.

Thanks,
-Richard

I'm in the N. Ga area and we have several active gaming groups that
would love to have these. I would be happy to contribute to the charity
of your choice or pay you something for them.

Should Richard's offer fall through for whatever reason then I suggest
asking a similar question on the miniatures page web-site forums.
For whatever reason, pretty much everyone moved over to using web forums a
couple of years back.

There is a possibility I could go to the Dawson Forest WMA (only about
35 miles north of Norcross) this Saturday. If your group could cover
$125 for gas for my van (610 miles round-trip at 15mpg) it would help
me decide whether to go or not.

Otherwise, it would be far cheaper for me to just drive them 10 miles
to the dump.

I need to know pretty quick, so I can contact the people from the
Georgia Canoeing Association, with whom I would be boating if I decide
to come. I wouldn't put 600 miles on my van just to deliver these and
break even on the cost of gas, but the Georgia Canoeing Ass'n will be
boating Amicolola Creek if it has enough water, and I've never boated
that stream before (fact, the only Georgia streams I've boated are all
3 sections of the Chatooga, Warwoman Creek, the Cartecay River, and
part of the Chatahoochie River).

Let me know: rhopley[at]earthlink[dot]net.

Thanks, Andy, but... this is what I was asking: where ARE those
"miniatures page web-site forums"? Google has not been a bit helpful;
that's why I asked here. But without a URL, I'm where I started.

I'll need to talk to a couple of the guys and see if they can scrape it
together. Meanwhile you might get some bites at
www.tabletop-wargames.org, they have a pretty strong WW2 and DBM base
that might see something they want.

So let's see now.
On the one hand either "pretty much everyone" on a given forum is an
arsehole, except for Rob.
On the other hand there is the possibility Rob is an arsehole and provoked
"pretty much everyone".

Those two things aren't mutually exclusive. Bet you run off and hide now

BTW Richard TMP's forums *aren't* that highly regarded around the place.
You might want to look at them as a jumping off place for specialised
mailing lists or other forums.

So you admit to being an arsehole?

The two statements are mutually exclusive.
Read them again arsehole.

Exactly why RGMH fell apart. Cunts like you can't understand that
different people can and should be allowed different opinions, and
different opinions in a forum are good.

You're awfully brave at the moment Andy. What's up, the wife posting
for you?
