I was reading about a beam weapon in a 3rd edition book that referred me to the
"Walking the Burst" information in GURPS High Tech. I was thinking this would
apply to flamethrowers as well - and that got me to thinking, is walking the
burst included in the combat rules for 4e? I haven't got my books with me to
verify, but it seems to me there is a page or two about auto-firing, but not
about 'spraying' with weapons like flamethrowers or other continuous stream
weapons.

Can someone set me straight?

Seems to be the kind of thing we'd see in the new High Tech.

"Spraying fire" on p. 409 of Campaigns might be what you're looking
for. That is, I would use those rules for flamethrowers as well as for
hosing down squads of mooks with machine guns. (Except that, to me,
it's silly that it's _easier_ to hit two different targets than a
single target if you have high ROF and a high Rcl. I'd want to work
out a way to make Rcl apply to subsequent targets as well.)

GURPS 4E High-Tech doesn't have an index entry for "walking the
burst," but it does discuss Ranged Rapid Strike, whereby you can use
ROF 2+ to make two distinct attacks instead of autofiring at a single
target.

Thanks for this. Interestingly "Spraying Fire" and "Walking the Burst" while
describing the same action, describe the game mechanic quite differently. I'm
going with the 4e version just for convenience.
