Ok, so my youngest lad has his shiny Ogre army that he got for christmas and is enjoying
learning all the ins and outs of their special rules. Except every single one of the damn
things causes fear. This is fine. Except I play Orcs and Goblins who, with the exception
of a unit of Black Orcs, have the leadership of a parsnip and therefore fail the fear
test 9/10.
Anyone have any strategies for dealing with these things?

3 words: night goblin fanatics. ogre units generally aren't large and don't
have good armor, and with their 12" charge range they'll usually have no
option but to take the full 3D6 S5 hits from any given unit. night goblin
units won't cause panic to orcs when they do run away either, so stick them
out in front.
other than that, it's really quite similar to dealing with undead - ogres
move a lot faster, but that's partially balanced out by the fact that they
stay dead once you've killed them. load up on war machines, especially rock
lobbers. make sure that once you are in close combat, you're not gonna be
outnumbered. >> Stay informed about: [WHFB] Bloody Ogres |

It was twenty years ago today, Sir Chewbury Gubbins taught the band to play:

Run away. It sounds like you've got that part dealt with though, so
bravo sir.
As an Ogre player myself though (all of about 5 games), the fear thing
is useful, but Ogres generally don't get ranks, so if you can outnumber
them (like that's hard with Orcs), you're just going to hope to pass the
Fear tests and you should have a fair stab at winning combat.
Or, shoot them to bits before they get close.

Use small units wolf riders to march block. That way you will have
more time to shoot and set up charges. Also put spear chukkas on your
flanks and try to get side shots in order to pierce multiple ogres
with a single shot.

Sounds like a good plan. Thanks for the help

What he said plus try some savage orcs, do they still have frenzy?
Can you put a black orc in charge of a huge goblin horde? (Used to be able
to, but I haven't read the new rules, if there are new rules.)
Doesn't a giant cause fear and therefore, doesn't have to fear test?
When my O&G went up against fear causing it was generally just a matter of
how well my ballistics worked before the savage orc boar riders showed up.
If the other army has half decent bowwhatevers, the giant is an expensive
waste though. >> Stay informed about: [WHFB] Bloody Ogres |
