Our local club is mid league for border patrol...now Im a comparative
newbie to this edition of Warhammer so I picked undead as my force (mainly
because that was what was available for me to borrow.
The border patrol force I have is
Lvl2 Necromancer with a black periapt
13 Ghouls
10 zombies with a standard
10 skeletons with added lgt armour and spears
Banshee
Now so far I have faced dwarves, brettonians, empire and orcs. The orcs
I just closed on and summoned a unit near their rock lobber and survived
leaving my general way too exposed with a lucky flight. The empire simply
crumbled when I got close, the brettonians had the less than satisfiying
situation of having their infantry block being run down by zombies as well
as their fast cavalry suffering the same fate. The dwarves however handed
me my rotting backside on a plate - double dispel dice and no invocations
of Nehek and undead suffer (doncha know) - even a banshee doesnt work on
them very well.
So - so far I can use the basic of close and scare. In a test battle with
some Empire people with Leadbelcher ogres the ghouls were astounding in
their ability to rip ogres to pieces - so I have some useful troops above
the concept of summon a big block of troops and overrun/fear the enemy
which has been the core of my methods.
However Im due to face Empire with Ogres (I think I know what to do
there), High Elves who I know nothing about beyond the fact he has a
cavalry unit with a general in it, a spearman block and some skirmishing
archer), Chaos (fire using mage, chaos fast cavalry, chaos warrior block
and a beastman unit with two types of troops in it some with spears some
close comabt thats horribly effective) and most scary of all the Woodelves
who seem to have wardancers, dryads, archers, scout archers and a Hail of
Doom arrow on the general.
Its the missile troops that worry me, I so far havent worked out a
strategy for dealing with the wood elves especially - half their army
seems immune to fear, and the rest seem to stay out of range. Plus that
arrow seems like it can take out an entire unit of my core troops before I
get a chance to summon any more...so anyone offering any tips on good ways
to deal with a missile armed enemy or is it simply line em up as close as
possible and close as fast as I can?
