I need to buy a new SATA Hard Drive for FSX. (Single Drive, not Raid)
I know that the Raptor spins faster and has a larger Cache etc., but how
does this translate in performance gain in FSX. Is it minimal or is it worth
the cost?

The rest of my stuff:

XP Pro + SP2.
EVGA nForce 680i SLI - A1 Mainboard (P28 Bios)
EVGA 8800GTS 640MB O/Clocked.
CPU E6700 GHz.
OCZ PC2-8500 DDR2 1GBX2.

Thanks for any advice,

Lyn.

Kind of depends if you plan to use a lot of heavy photo scenery - then yes.
If just standard FSX - not worth it. Better spend the $ on the CPU and mem.

You bet, my FS9 is full of local scenery and AI traffic.
I am still waiting for FSX replacements for TTools, AFCAD, EZ Scenery, FSE
etc. as I like to enhance downloaded scenery and create my own traffic. I am
a bit worried though, heard nothing about these programs yet.

Unless somebody has been in contact with Lee and Lee releases the
sourse code for AFCAD you won't see AFACD-X.

There are two replacements for AFCAD. Both are coming along
nicely. One is called Airport Design Engine (ADE) and the
other is FSX Planner.

On my home FX system, I have three of the 150G Raptors in a RAID-0
stripe. It measures about 118 mbytes/sec sustained and 231 mbytes/sec
peak. It really does a number on large file transfers like big scenery.

You can't be too rich or have too fast disks.

Thanks scott, I forgot about Scruffyduck. I just had a look, they should do
the trick but I have to get the new HD first.

I'e got one of each, system and fsx on the raptor, and the vfr scenery
on the caviar. The raptor is fast, but probably just a luxury really.
Some of the very high density drives are not far behind in performance
and hold much more data.
