It's not that I can complain as such since it runs at 100 fps. But I
would like to see how much faster it would render if let loose.

Drivers are the lastest from ATI, OS is XP Pro and VSYNC is set to
allways off in the ATI control panel, while all other settings are at
max quality and UT is running in 1600*1200.

Kind regards

Bruno aka Cool.DK

I raised the resolution to 2048*1536 at 85 Hz and the average framerate
did go down to 70+something on AS-Overlord so I guess the 100 fps
sustained framerate I get at 1600*1200 is not that far from the max
framerate. Still I guess it's fair to say hardware has moved a long way
since UT was new back in late 1998:-)

Back then I'm not even sure FSAA was possible and it certainly wasn't
playable and now we can go max on all image quality settings. Fragging
is good!

Kind regards

Im not a tech head but I have always found that UT is mainly influenced by
your CPU. Well that its seems to me when i have swapped gpu and cpu as
money and failures allow.

What does your UT .ini file have for Vsync? If I remember correctly,
it's opposite of what you might think. IOW, Vsync=False means that
Vsync is turned on.

That was worth a shoot.

As it turned out the ini had nothing about Vsync in the OpenGL section.
I copied the line from the D3D section but no change and it does not
seem to matter if it says =true or =false. Could it be the new OpenGL
renderer needs something else?

Kind regards

It was worth a try and it seemed reasonable.

Thx for this and the copy below as well. I have been digging a little
bit in the documentation from Chris plus some other stuff I found and
not I know a little bit more.

The "Refreshrate=0" means the render will use the default refresh rate.
In my case that means 100 Hz in 1600*1200 and 75 Hz in 2048*1536, but
I'm not exactly sure what makes thoose refresh rates default. Also you
can set it at the rate you desire but you may not get it!

Based on some settings posted in a forum for the D3D8drv render I have
been able to guess the VSync thing is actually controlled by this setting:

SwapInterval=1

Where 1 means VSync on and 0 means off. However on my system it seems
the setting is just ignored. And that goes for both DirectX and OpenGL.

I shall experiment some more and also try and put together an optimal
settings list. Maybe it will only work with ATI but time will tell. In
this very moment the performance is some 20-30% better in OpenGL on my
system (P4 2.5 Ghz, X1900XTX) - that may be due to the render or maybe
ATI's current drivers are actually better in OpenGL for more simple
graphics like UT. I know they made some great improvements not long ago.

Kind regards

Bruno
