Well, Vista is now released, and I couldn't wait. So I bought a copy of
Vista Home Premium. I have a 64bit CPU, and so it was a surprise that when
I opened the package it was a 32bit version only. I read a bit more of the
paper in the package and to get the 64bit version I have to order it from
Singapore and pay another $29.95 for delivery.

I may be wrong, but it appears that the 64bit version only comes with the
top of the range Ultimate Business version

It's all explained here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/homepr...um/defa

"Note: If your system features a 64-bit processor, you can take advantage of
its advanced design in this edition of Windows Vista. Read more."
Clicking Read more explains everything:

"We're sorry, but there is no Microsoft.com Web page that matches your
entry. It is possible you typed the address incorrectly, or the page may no
longer exist. You may wish to try another entry or choose from the links
below, which we hope will help you find what you're looking for."

You get that message if you're using a browser other than Internet Explorer,
which all MS sites require. With IE you get the right page.

I often over look the caveats that software manufacturers print on their
boxes or website and when I install it I am sometimes very disappointed and
pissed off! Smile

I feel your pain. It's like putting money into a vending machine and nothing
comes out.

Or tampons rather than Snickers, in this case.

I was gonna say, it works for me using Firefox.

Something to keep in mind, while virtually everything comes with 32 bit
drivers, the same is not true for 64 bits.

And in addition, all 64 bit drivers have to be certified, or whatever the
heck it is in Vista they call it, 64 bit will not allow non certified
drivers to be installed. Therefore, there will be some device mfg's that
don't even bother developing drivers for the 64 bit version of Vista.

It's a shame really, 64 bit processors have been out for how long now? You
would have to think that programs written to take advantage of 64 bit, on a
64 bit OS, would be superior. The move to 64 bit computing is taking a lot
longer than I would have thought initially.

And... we get to thank the agreement between MS, the recording
industry, and the movie industry for that is part of their DRM so you
can't hook any thing to your Vista powered computer that might be
capable of circumventing what *they* are willing to let us do even if
we are given that right through "fair use". Never mind you might want
to experiment and write a device driver.

For that we get to thank the movie and recording industry for stifling
innovation and progress.
