Hi All,

I've just downloaded this, and was wondering whether anyone has noticed
any "Tips and Tricks" about it?

Strewth - it only took ~ 19 hours to download !#$5%!@

At the moment, I can't use my removable drive trays, and therefore can't
install it on a separate hard drive, which would be my normal modus
operandi.

I'll have to consider installing it in a Dual Boot situation, and was
just wondering whether anyone has already had a crack at this??

Regards,
John Ward

I would be very cautious about using a beta especially one as big as an
Operating system. Apparantly there is no going back once installed
furthermore it has an expiry date. Another furthermore... app there is no
guarantee it will recognise all your hardware.
I installed the beta of IE7 and kind of wish I hadn't as there are features
lacking and I am not at all sure it's stable. But to go back to 6, I am
equally fearful of in case it upsets other apps.

John ,

from everything I have read in the MS Vista NG best install on a PC you dont
care about. If you must install on a good PC then do it in new
partition/internal HD. Also it will not install on an external hard drive
from what I have read..

I finally downloaded it , think it took about 3 hours....I plan to get my
old PC from my son and give it a go.

The Vista and office NGs are on the news.Microsoft.com news servers.

I was able to go back to IE6 without incident but some people did report
problems going back...
IE7 did not seem to have anything worth the trouble...IMHO FF is much better
for me for now Smile

Good suggestion on the OS...

I set up a separate partition on my Raid drive, and tried to install. Fine
until it asked where I wanted to put it, and provided a choice of exactly
zero drives! No drivers supplied! OK, so let's try the XP Intel Raid
driver - what's the chances? Strangely, it worked perfectly, and I now have
Vista on the new partition. By default, it boots into Vista, though the two
choices provided are "Microsoft Windows" and "Earlier Operating System".
Only installed it last night, so haven't had a chance yet to play with it,
but I think the biggest problem is going to be drivers. (Must change that
"Earlier Operating System" nonsense!)
Regards,
Steve.

Hi Canuck,

Thanks for the comments, mate.

I've recently got a new mobo, so I'm going to check out whether I can
now use removable drive trays again .

The previous Gigabyte mobo had some additional power-regulation
thingamebobby which meant my drive trays bombed out, by ~ 1/8 of an inch.

I don't think I'll try the Vista, and Office2007, Betas, unless I can on
a completely separate hard drive, although I'm keen to have a crack at them,
just to see what's what.

Regards,
John Ward

Hi John,

Well, as if the final release Microsoft OS's don't cause enough problems,
especially security - and you're installing a Beta version!? Good luck, mate
(as you lot say down there!) Wink)
