Anyone have Vista 64 bit and have difficulty with surround..

I have a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card and there's that whole
Alchemy thing that's supposed to get games to work correctly but I
haven't been able to get HL2 or Dark Messiah to let me use my 7.1 speakers.

Other games are working OK. A fix exists and I'm just not sure how to
do it, any help?

As a public service I'm responding to my own post. Turns out that
running the 64 bit version of HL2 on vista is not fixable using the
Creative Alchemy software. I am able to get HL2 Episode 1 to work
because that is a 32 bit program.

So no surround sound in any of the 64 bit versions of source games.
Dark Messiah I got to work.

As with most things, this is mostly Microsoft's fault for dispensing
with the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL).
