I'm on top of a Bird HW, which has been evacuated of all colos. I'm
blockading the base and also have a base oof my own on the planet since
2 turns, but I don't see the Bird base. Is it possible that the
visibility of the enemy base is that low, that I still can't see it
even in the scenario described above?

In a recent game I picked up a Bird HW straight away, while over it.
Soon as I moved though it disappeared. You sure it hasnt been TNT?

Speaking about Bird bases I allways think the same, I do not see many
advantage into this feature.

The most easy way to scan the base is to make your own base in the
planet (1 crew for example). As the same momment as you'll get a base,
you'll have a full scan of the base.

I have used this way to scan Bird bases a lot of times with Borg and
Solorian Probes and later with Fed ships making 1 crew base and allways
works. Too easy I think.

Given your base and ships in the area, I don't think a Bird base,
especially a HW, could remain unhidden in that scenario. [Especially
with a Tachyon Emitter, which appears to be running.]

P.S. In such an event, check the planet surface. TNT usually leaves
plenty of evidence there.

Yep, I was surprised to see all that metals on the surface. If a TNT
leaves those, that would explain it. On the other hand I thought I
destroyed all bird ships before the base could have been destroyed. You
are saying I misjudged? Wink

Yes, I was expecting that a base of my own would reveal the Bird base.
As that didn't happen I thought I asked around if I missed anything.

Well, it seems it has been TNTed.

Thanks to everybody replying!

Yes. TNT appears to leave the base's metals dumped all over the
planet's surface. Seems to destroy everything else nicely though. I
managed to get rid of most of the Dur. and the Moly, just couldn't seem
to get rid of the Trit. Wink

As for the timing, well, yes, you misjudged a bit Wink IIRC, you
invaded the same turn I TNT'd, and you did indeed destroy all the ships
you could see, and command codes are after combat, which leads to the
next question...

Perhaps you -- or someone else -- can settle something for me that does
not appear to be clearly (or correctly?) addressed anywhere, which is
whether non-Fed Lokis with skilled crew or HG can detect a perfectly
cloaked Bird-owned Resolute or Darkwing. From the anecdotal evidence
in our game (including one particular cloaked Resolute with a TNT
command), the answer appears to be no but I was wondering if you cared
to confirm.

I found the answer on the Wiki, and I'll believe it because it is
consistent with my observations. According to the Wiki, non-Fed-owned
Lokis cannot detect Resolutes or Darkwings, regardless of skill or HG.
The help files, which include the phrase "those ships can be uncloaked
by a Loki class with a skilled crew using a Tachyon Emitter" are a bit
misleading, or at least vague on this point.

It is a Hull and not a race ability, so matter of fact any Loki (owned
by a Fed or not) should be able to detect Resolutes and DWs.

Anyway, thanks for the honest input. I appreciate it very much!
