I am about to start messing with my All in Wonder card...going to do a complete
MK Fatality demo using MK1-3 on MATv2, MK Gold, MK Trilogy, MK:DA and MK:D.

Man, I fiddled with MPEG2 versions of each file for the better part of a
day, and ended up with interlace tearing, or artifacts, regardless, I
just had to do them wmv, you have to believe me!

Sounds awesome! I think it'll probably be a while before I do another
update like I've done this week, and it'll be great to see the activity.

Well, the WMV encoder is actually pretty good, gives off some great quality...just
doesn't make it accessible to everyone out there. With WMP out on Mac OSX, and with
it actually not being too bad at all, you don't loose out on too many people viewing.

I'll look into it if you can point me in the right direction. The
software I'm using doesn't support it, so it's outside of what I've been
testing. I've been recording in MPEG 2 at 702x480 with the highest
quality audio ATI MMC would allow, then converting it with One Stop
Soft's video converter, which I've found to be very efficient file size
wise. Neither program supports Divx though.

Yeah, that's the problem I'd imagine that you'd run into dealing with Divx.
Though, that Dr. Divx thing is supposed to be able to encode the video...so
maybe you could record it, then convert it when you're done editing? It's
$30....I wouldn't mind trying it out, as the Divx codec is available for all
operating OS's out there...seems there's even a demo for it. Might give this
a shot at the house at some point. My only real issue with Divx is that over
half the time, when I'm on some site that offers Divx video, it never seems
to work. WMP, QT, or whatever always seem to say something like "missing
codec" or some bullshit like that...

Yeah, that's been my problem as well. Anybody who wanted to use it
would have to then go find the codec to make it work, and then it still
may not work. You and I having the same problem with viewing DIVX seems
like a pretty good indicator that most viewers aren't going to have any
better luck.

Man, even blowing it up to full screen it looks just like it does in ATI
MMC playing straight off the system. And I just noticed that the
conversion actually downgraded the resolution to 320x240, but it looks
better than MPEG 2 at 702x480, that's pretty danged good. MPEG2 was
also more time consuming, because when I converted it to save file
space, the image quality darkened so much that I was going to have to go
into Ulead Videostudio to brighten it, which takes about 10 minutes a
video. WMV's going to be the way to go for the time being.....

As I am just getting started on the whole video recording, and I am guessing you are using
an All in Wonder card as well, I may harass you for what you are finding are the best
settings for quality. I've been messing around with it, mostly trying to get around a sound
issue I was having, but have since conquered that and have been playing around with the
settings lately.

graphical comparisons aside, the 32X version was far and away the
best.
the megadrive/genesis was most technically impressive.
the saturn one was just plain awful. guess thats what you get when you
let Time Warner do the job......

Not a problem, if you're sending e-mails and I don't reply right away,
it's because I'm not getting them. Overall though, I set the video to
highest quality for DVD recording, which is 720x480 resolution and the
highest bit depth audio, and then I use OSS video converter on the same
resolution, but 128 for the audio bitrate. I find that Shrinks MPEG2s
down to almost a third their size. For wmv files, Windows Media 8 best
quality based VBR for broadband is what I set it to, and that's the
quality of the videos I have on my site right now.

Sounds good, will give it a shot tonight if I get around to it...might just start on that MK Demo
tonight...
