That is a Korea-war sim, and focuses on the earlier jets; not what the
OP was asking for. But it is certainly still playable today.
(I do have FotI, but indeed it will not play well on modern machines;
most of the old dos flightsims I've tried (in DosBox) are hard to
achieve consistent performance in, with todays fast hardware, even if
they can be partly playable; they can get too jittery to control, or
fails in weapon delivery).
Also there's a helo sim, called 'Vietnam Med Evac', though it isn't
quite in the same genre, and also a bit dated graphically while it runs
fine on xp. >> Stay informed about: Vietnam-era flightsims? |

and there is always Wings Over Vietnam from Third Wire, don't have it but
having a lot of fun with First Eagles & Wings Over Europe:
https://store.thirdwire.com/store.htm
https://store.thirdwire.com/store.htm
You could be in the air within the hour: download and patches available -
one does not need a cd in the drive either.
Has high resolution available but can play on almost every pc, for vista
you'll need some fixing of terrain folder but you can read up on that in the
forums. >> Stay informed about: Vietnam-era flightsims? |

Ah- you must be right. Haven't played it for too many years I guess, I
must be confusing it with something else. (looks at box.. hmm.) >> Stay informed about: Vietnam-era flightsims? |

Wings Over Europe with the community freeware NATO expansions lets you
fly lots of old iron. >> Stay informed about: Vietnam-era flightsims? |

Cue: Whining about how TK's survey sims are generic and lightweight.
Never mind that sometimes he seems to be trying to keep the genre
alive singlehandedly--aside from the vaporware whose release date
keeps creeping up to the next quarter. >> Stay informed about: Vietnam-era flightsims? |

Yea, well they are. I've bought every one of his games except WoV and am
not buying anymore because they are all quite boring. So waht if they
have lots of planes to fly, the game engine is just dull and boring.
Sort of like you. >> Stay informed about: Vietnam-era flightsims? |

How does realism compare between the sims? I've never flown any of these
planes IRL so have no idea.
I've been playing WOV for a couple weeks now, it's very nice but could use
some polish (eg. carrier operations are poorly modelled) >> Stay informed about: Vietnam-era flightsims? |
