Video Problem - Taito Space Invaders

A friend recently aquired an original Taito upright Space Invaders and
it has a problem with the video.

NOTE: All directions are given as view from the playing position
(yes, I know the monitor is rotated, just easier to describe)

The display has white lines going across it from top to bottom
(leaning slightly to the left at the top) and some of the images
appear to repeat themselves vertically (most noticably the credit
image). the effect is very similar to standing between 2 mirrors..

Does anyone know of a good resorce to troubleshoot this issue or
possibly info on the cause?
