Hello,
I have a Philips flat screen tv hooked up to my mame computer. The
video card is an Nvidia 5200. It is hooked to the tv with an S Video
cable right now. Somehow, in trying to get a better picture and trying
to get it to work with a DVI to HDMI cable, I now only have a black
screen. I think it happened when I was changing a setting in the
display properties from Default TV to Philips FTV. It was all working
fine, until then. I hooked the computer up to an old dell monitor and
still only have a black screen....so I think it's a computer setting,
but I can't change the settings because I can't see what I'm doing.
I'm like in the final stages of finishing my Mame cabinet, it's taken
me about a year to save up for everything and I was so close, but
now...it is so frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Fran >> Stay informed about: Video Card tweak.... |

If it's constantly black, even during the phase where you'd expect to
see the BIOS screens coming up, then it's a stuffed card, otherwise
try putting windows into Safe mode using I think F8 during the boot
process.

I think holding down F8 takes you to a menu of about 5 options. One of
the options is safe mode, but you probably wont see the menu (if I
understand your problem correctly).
To boot directly into safe mode, I think you can hold down a shift key
and then restarting. Keep holding the shift key until hopefully you see
the desktop. The resolution and colors may be different, but that's only
while you're in safe mode. >> Stay informed about: Video Card tweak.... |

Should be fine if he's connected to the monitor but if he's on the TV
then it might be harder. I'm typing this on a 46" LCD screen in 1080p
mode, the computer (a Mac mini running linux) got the resolution of
the panel via the DVI->HDMI lead, so really it ought to be able to
figure out the resolution and panel parameters for itself.

Thank you guys for your help. I did as you said and then removed the
new video card, put back in the old card...cleared all the old drivers
out, then re-installed the new card and it looks GREAT. Thanks again
for your help, everyone on this board has so much knowledge and it's
an awesome resource.
