Somebody mentioned the other day that you get body armor when you enter a
swat van. I had to check that out. I tried other vehicles, too. Here are
the ones I know about:

Police car (even country style): Shotgun and/or 5 rounds

Swat Van: Body Armor

Ambulance: About 1/8 added to your life-bar (pretty stingy).

Apparently nothing for an FBI car, Rhino, Barracks, or Fire Truck.

Hmm. I forgot to try a police bike.

The "gifts" only work once per spawn (that it, you can't get out then back
in to get more), and putting the vehicle in a garage (and closing and
opening it) doesn't seem to renew them, either.

I also notice another oddity: For an emergency vehicle in a garage, the
license plate changes when you close and open the garage door. For regular
vehicles, that doesn't seem to happen.

are you playing the PC version? I am just wondering, since playing the
xbox one, if they have repaired that stupid thing where a crash on the
front of the vehicle damages the rear. I think it may have happened
with the limo which you use to pick up Toreno, but otherwise I am
fairly certain rear end damage is actual rear end damage.

Had no idea about such gifts. Think there is there a way to cheat the
once-per-spawn rule? The body armor one could be convenient.

Except the only time you see one of THOSE vehicles is when it is
screeching to a halt an unloading a bunch of machine gun wielding
loonies.

Here's a neat trick: Lob a molotov at them. If you listen out you can
hear the van doors slamming as everybody exits and with good timing you
can set them all alight.

The good thing about this is that one molotov rarely sets any vehicle
on fire, let alone an armoured SWAT van.

I find an M4 just too damn satisfying though, rat-tat-tat-tat-tat...

Really? There's no Enforcer spawn points in GTA:SA? Guess I got so used
to just ignoring them at police stations in GTA3 & VC that I never noticed
there weren't any in SA...

I sometimes use this to get some shells. You know, start mayhem in
front of the SF garage, save when things get too interesting and then
enter and exit all the cop cars that are parked around.

Could this be the same thing that happens to cars that have a vanity
plate, girlfriends' and homies' cars and such? At least after a save
they don't have it any more, but it could be just the garage visit
changes the plate. Maybe R* meant to put vanity plates on cop cars at
some point? You know there's a big list of plates in the game,
apparently most of them are used for cars in the Blood Ring.

Heh heh. Coincidentally I was playing the new xbox version this
afternoon and I had started the mission to ram the ambulance. When I
rammed it and jumped out a cop car hit my car and the cop jumped out,
I had to shoot him and next thing my stars are rising quicker than an
erection in a brothel and I am just shooting frantically. I grabbed
the ambulance and raced for my destination and I don't know if it's
just imaginary but things seem tougher when cars are chasing you in
this version, one of the two cars chasing hit me and knocked me onto
the highway, where my ambulance landed on its roof. I just had to grab
the nearest vehicle with massive stars and head for a safe house. I
got to the casino and save point, and when I came back with no stars
there's the big cop truck right in front of me with nobody in it!
tadaaaaaa. Nice prize for my frantic action.

Most of the time, it's not too hard to steal a given vehicle. Hold a
stand-off near a safe house that has a garage. (Stand on the roof, or drive
around in a tank.) When the target vehicle gets close, hit the ground and
go for it. (The thing that helps is that once CJ enters "get in the car"
mode, he seems to be immune to gunfire. Just run on up to the occupied
vehicle. As soon as they get out, tell CJ to get in. They won't be able to
scratch him.) Make a dash for the garage to save the vehicle. That can be
hard with all the gunfire. (Even if it blows inside the garage (without CJ
in it), closing the door will repair it.) Then dash for the safe house door
and get a change of clothes. Verdant Meadows is very nice for this method,
since the places the law vehicles come from are so predictable once you get
to know the place.

Another Verdant Meadows trick to try: See if you can lure the vehicle you
want into the aircraft hangar and shut the doors on it. (Don't run straight
out, or they'll probably follow you. Whip around a corner and run around
the back of the hangar to lure them to the back of the hangar.) Then go
change clothes to lose the stars. I don't think I've tried this yet, but it
should work. Might be tricky.

I like using verdant for getting the black FBI truck, or for stealing
the tank, just pull up outside, hit save, run back out and sometimes I
can keep my tank and an fbi vehicle or swat vehicle too.

I'm pretty sure not. I haven't thoroughly checked, I hardly seem to
bother visiting cop stations anymore, but I don't recall ever seeing
an empty one parked up.

Ah, well there are some notable differences. One is that the game
locked up twice during gameplay with a high buzzing sound on audio,
both times while doing something pretty innocuous too.

I did this once in a fun game after nicking a tank from the restricted
Area. The bastard was that I had some larger vehicles of collection in
there which got replaced by three (!) FBI Ranchers Surprised(

Has anyone else noticed that the small Verdant Meadows garage seems to
swallow blown up cars?
