VecOS.
Any chance for some screen shots Martijn? Theres not too much info on
www.revial-studios.com.
Would love to know more.

Finally, Martijn showed his VexOS, it will also be freeware, and allows
Vectrex users to show off the power of Vectrex. You can upload pictures
from a pc to your Vectrex, or textfiles, or soundclips (all with the use
of Richard's Vecflash). Keyboard support will be added, and basic on the
vectrex (which is a bit easier then assembly). Another cool feature was
VecVox functions, where you just put in a string of tekst and the VecVox
will speak it out. I probably forgot some features, but follow Martijn's
site at http://www.revival-studios.com/.

Quick copy paste from my site

I'm working on something right now...

Martijn's VecOS really was something special.
One particular aspect of it could transform the entire scene...
My opinions will be on the Vectorzoa blog soon..

Cheers Alex

Hi All,

In response to the Vexos demonstration i gave at Eurocon, here is some more
information about the OS and the demonstration:

Current features:
===========
- Menu interface (several flavors) with:
APPS/GAMES, BASIC, PHOTOS, AUDIO, DOCUMENTS and TOOLS/HELP
- Basic compiler/interperter
- Photoviewer for JPG/BMP/TGA/PCX files
- Vectorgraphics viewer for Adobe's SVG and VEC files
- Music player for YM music
- Digital Audioplayer for WAV files and digital songs (custom format)
- Documentviewer for TXT files
- Text to speech from textfiles (renamed as VOX) using the Vecvoxx

Note that the music and digital audio runs through the regular vectrex
speaker.
Only the Text-to-speech uses the Vecvoxx

What was demo'ed at Eurocon:
=====================
1) A quick explanation about what the OS is about
2) Showing how the Vexospack packingtool works (This is the tool that
gathers the different resources for the Vectrex OS) and displaying the
different resource on the PC (photos, basic code, textfiles, etc.)
3) Booting the OS on the vectrex (a Vexos bootscreen comes up with vecvox
soundeffects)
4) Navigation through the menu interface
5) Document viewing of a textfile
6) The viewing several several photos
7) Text to speech - A textfile was read by the vectrex
Cool Running of BASIC code: Pong game
9) Running of a piece of useless Brainf*&k code
10) Digital sound demo - Prodigy (no vecvox used)
11) Digital sound demo - Junior Senior (no vecvox used)
*) A selected crowd has seen the CHIP8 emulation running (about 20 different
games/roms were shown)

I've updated the website with new information and media, you can find it at:

http://www.revival-studios.com (select -> vectrex -> Vexos operation
system (2007) for the leftside menu)

I've updated the following:
- New information about the OS
- Screenshots from the OS in action
- Audio files of the digital audio player
- Audio and matching textfile of the vectrex reading out at textfile (text
to speech)
- Basic instructions overview
- 2 Basic sourcecodes to look at.

I'll let you know when more information becomes available.

Martijn

Stuff like this really really really restores some of the big amount
of faith i have lost about the Vectrex community for the last few
months..

Awesome, Martijn.
Keep on!!!

This is really the greatest single thing that happened since i am into
the Vectrex again apart from Francks ParaJVE.

Thanks...

And i really hope, some people get their asses up and write some basic
progs with this awesome tool...

and i hope the haters really shut the **** up, now..

I read the description on Martijn's website and a more technical
account on Vectorzoa's blog.
This is all really exciting, I've got a big smile on my face as I
write this, and I wait with anticipation for the release. I'll
definitely be experimenting with some BASIC programs.

Incidently, Martijn, you know your document viewer, were you able to
overcome the problem of displaying many characters on the screen? I've
been playing for while now with the built in routines for displaying
text on the screen. I've made lines about 20-30 characters long, but
as soon as I start displaying more than 6 rows of lines, the text
becomes very slanted.

That's about all I can get without slowing the frame rate down, but
JSR Reset0Ref ($F354) would improve the slant, I imagine. No doubt
Martijn has used some clever trick to raster the entire screen.

Thanks for the support.

I hope everyone will enjoy it when it comes out.
I just finished my new vectrex game (to be announced later today), so now i
can focus on getting the OS ready for release. I'm also trying to pimp up
the basic a bit (along with more examples) more to allow for more complex
games.

The basic is quite easy to learn, so i hope it will inspire a new crowd to
get their feet wet with vectrex programming. Upon release of vexOS, a basic
game development competition will also be launched with various prizes to
win!

I hope this has the same impact that BatariBASIC (www.bataribasic.com) did
on the 2600. There's all sorts of games being written in it.
