I've been considering getting a DC vga box for quite some time now.
One reason is my old s-video cable isn't working properly (color turns
black and white) and i understand that you can use standard s-video
cables as pass through. It'd also be a nice option to be able to see
and play games running on high res computer monitors (Guilty Gear X,
Soul Calibur and Tennis 2k2 come to mind).

I realize that not all games are compatible with it. Can anyone
confirm this? I'd really like to have Test Drive Le Mans working here.
I check at the back cover and unfortunately, it doesn't have the VGA
cord logo on it. Does this mean it can't and won't be displayed on a
VGA monitor properly?

Most DC games can be forced to use the VGA box using the DC-X boot disc,
however (they don't all look great; some of the lower res 2D fighters
appear to have been intentionally not activated in order to try to hide
their graphical age). A handful of games will still not work; some will
display nothing, some (like Bangaio) will display oddly.

Speaking of DC VGA boxes, I picked up like 100 of them at a flea market.

If anyone's interested I'm selling them for $5 a pop.

Hmm, anyone know if they can be adapted for xbox/gc/ps2?

EMail me here if you want one:

They can't. The VGA box is just a breakout box; the DC is putting out
VGA on games that support it.

Yeah, the official one is what I've been eyeing on after reading not so
good reviews about third parties. Unfortunately, the item is very hard
to find and in some cases expensive.

I realize not all games look good running on VGA monitors (Capcom 2D
fighter would probably be too pixelated). If you ever get the chance,
kindly lemme know if Test Drive Le Mans works.

I've been testing some today for people... damn these things are nice!

They're by HAIS and have these ports for out:
Composite video (yellow RCA)
RCA Audio (red and white RCA)
SVideo
VGA
1/4" mini stereo out (the kind your computer sound card uses)

Input is the DC connector.
Also has a switch for choosing between "PC" or "TV" (VGA and Composite I
presume)

I'm only testing them with a VGA monitor cause I'm strapped for time.

So, if interested drop me a line: roagie DeleteThis @isp.net WHERE isp = cox

So it only has VGA out, not VGA in (as a passthrough for another VGA source)?

As far as I know, the only box with the VGA in was the Performance brand
box. It was nice to have the passthrough, but there's a reason most
monitor cords are pretty short - the longer the cord, the lower the
image quality.

I had a performance box for quite some time, and while the DC games
looked great on it, the extra length of the PC cord to the box to the
monitor made my PC have some "shadowing" on whatever showed on the
monitor. It was hardly noticeable, but it was there.
