Exactly. The major gaming sites do only accept normal ZIP archives as
these are handled by Windows XP itself but the installer uses the much
better 7ZIP compression. This explains the file size differences.

The basic patch is only available from versions 3.x forward and I would
not recommend installing one of the older patches. Better go official 1.2
first, which is quite playable, and then get 4.5 from a friend with DSL.

Thanks for explaining that. I figured an installer would have better
compression, but I wasn't sure.

yes, i found my download of 7zip, parked under oblivion. Sad

my new file manager integrated 7zip into it's menu

site: http://www.7-zip.org/

current version 4.57, whereas my version
is 4.42 (soon to be replaced with 4.57!)

i have several real friends, but none w/high-speed internet

so i'm bracing myself for a 20 hour d/l

fwiw, i'm already very impressed with VTM-Bloodlines
(much more than VTM-Redemption which i played thru twice)

so i have a strong sense of why you've spent large
amounts of personal time to fix Bloodline's many problems

thank you very much for that! Smile

What, for 157MB? - I'm only on 56k dial-up and can get 100MB per
5 hours, so 157MB = 8 hours or so. You should check your phone
line, possibly unplug the other phones in your house (sometimes
too many phones can really slow it down) - and if it still takes
that long, maybe complain to your ISP. Smile

(I bet the broadband'rs are laughing at us right about now Wink )

last weekend, i downloaded the ver. 4.5 *zip* file
from gamespot (since gamespot still didn't appear
to be carrying the smaller exe, due to my getting
far better response with gamespot)

my file manager shows size of: 230,176,482 bytes

i kept accurate time of how long it took; it took
18 hours (+/- 20 minutes)

fwiw, i got 3 CRC errors, which i suspect are
already there on the gamespot site. Sad

the 7zip program that i use, unzips it all
and reports any issues that come up (vs. some
unzip programs that come to a screeching
halt when a zip has a CRC error)

If you post which files had the CRC errors, someone here who has the latest
patch d/led might be kind enough to zip up just those 3 & stick them on a
file hosting site for you Wink.

fwiw, now some 30+ days later, i suspect
that my "free" download manager has problems,
and i've updated it

the 7zip program has been solid

see above

fwiw, the CRC errors with my download of Werner's
4.5 version don't seem to have made any issues. Smile
