Ok on level 4 after defeating the chaos knight, I entered a secret
door to the right. There are two levers and two buttons which raise
platforms on the ground below. Official hint book says there is a
secret wall I can jump through instead of doing the levers and
buttons. Since I am getting really bored trying to figure out the
levers and buttons, I am trying to jump through the illusionary wall
that is supposed to exist but I just keep jumping into a real wall.
Smile. Can someone either tell me the exact position of the levers and
buttons or tell me exactly where the illusionary wall is? I see it in
my automap in the SE corner but I can never seem to find the exact
spot to jump to. FAQ does say SE corner. Should I use the Leap Ring? I
have no mage abilities so levitate and fly is not an option.

Ok never mind, I found a website which helped me solve this puzzle.
Thank you to all who would have responded. Wink

You're not going to find very many people who can give you much of the kind
of help you asked for on a game they played more than 10 years
ago--certainly not me.

Heh, I'm not sure I even remembered the game *has* illusionary walls, much
less any specific puzzle-solving sequences.

Hehe, I'm still alive and kicking but my spare time is limited, Ultima was
murdered by EA and my interest has changed a little bit. Looking forward to
Gothic III Smile

Well I did cross post to an ultima group. I play a lot of older games,
and I usually do get an answer on usenet. Smile

Oh -thanks! I picked up Interplay's Ultimate RPG Archives a while ago
and never got too far into UU1 so i've bookmarked the guide for future
reference. I'm sure i'll have questions once i progress in the game
further.

Well, it's almost for sure that you'll at least be able to find someone to
point you to somewhere you can at least have a good chance of finding the
answer yourself.

And I thought I detected a bit of annoyance that no one had answered you,
and was simply trying to explain maybe why no one had. I'm much more
familiar with the rpg than the ultima group, but I know rpg folks are most
obliging, and so are the ultima folks from my experiences with them. Smile

I started playing it again several months ago because I'd never
finished it (I hit that memory managerment bug of theirs that
eventually made the game unplayable). I also cannot remember
how I solved certain problems even though I've have a sheaf
of handwritten notes on real paper that I stored in the
box.

I'm currently in that limbo that occurs in all games where I
need to do more killing and problem solving before I can
advance except I keep getting killed trying to get those points.

?

Other than I probably meant to say "most" rpg folks are obliging, I don't
see where there's an overstatement.

In my experience *most* folks on both the rpg and ultima groups *are*
obliging and willing to offer help and advice to anybody who needs it.

Or is there a joke here I'm just too dense to catch?

Oh I was definitely annoyed, but not at anyone here. I hate
lever\button\pressure plate puzzles. They are so boring and they give
me no satisfaction if I solve them. Flipping levers and pushing
buttons is not something I want to spend any time doing in an RPG.

I'm with you on that--maybe it's homage to Zork? Smile

Anyway, the "new" Bard's Tale has (at least) one of those lever
"puzzles"--although it's not really a puzzle. But it still put me in
aggravation mode, and not long thereafter I became annoyed enough with the
game to chuck it.

I understand that Smile. I stopped playing one of the Ravenloft
games because I can't manage to trip open a door.

But I'd rather deal with combinatorics than have to go through
yet another melee.
