Post subject: Need For Speed Underground 2 Tuning!
Archived from groups: alt>games>need-for-speed (more info?)

hello ppl..my name is Alias Wardak and I play nfs underground 2./. i
have noticed people having trouble tuning their car to the best..so i
thought i'd take some time and post everything bout tuning cars...

Kay "Let's Start Tuning"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Drift
In drift mode, set your car up using the following this basic
structure. Tune the ECU to have as much torque as you can get in the
early gears. Make all of the suspension settings as hard as possible to
eliminate shock travel. This will help get the back end out. Turn the
tire grip to weak. Also, make the cars acceleration as quick as
possible. For the toe settings, lower it all the way. Make the aero
settings as weak as possible. Set the brake bias towards rear. By doing
this, you will greatly increase your score, especially on the downhill.
On the straight-aways you can do Choku-Doris (go from side to side) to
rack up big points. You can then link them to power over-steer drifts,
which is when you will use the torque and acceleration to lose traction
in the back tires, then use carefully timed throttle control to get
around the corner as sideways as possible. This will help your drifts
scores get as high as possible. Throttle control is very important --
do not get discouraged if you spin out a lot. Note: This has not been
attempted on FF or AWD cars. FF and AWD cars will most likely have a
softer suspension setting but everything else would probably remain the
same. FF and AWD cars also need the hand brake to initiate drifts more
than a FR car would.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sprint/ URL/ Circuit!!
Suspension, set rear sway bar to about the same as front.

ECU, in this order: minimize 5, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1.
Turbo, in this order: minimize 5, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1.

This creates a strong but narrow power band from about 6,000 rpm to
redline, which will be in the shift range with the gearing I
use, see below.

NOS - move it two clicks to the left of center. With a tall 1st gear
and little power untill 5,000rpm, use NOS in first gear for
quick launches.

Set gear ratio set to 4.10 (all the way right), then set these speeds
(nearest value):

1st 58 mph / 93 kmh (all the way right)
2nd 87 mph / 140 kmh
3rd 111 mph / 179 kmh
4th 137 mph / 220 kmh
5th 162 mph / 261 kmh
6th 183 mph / 295 kmh (all the way left)

Note that the speeds shown on NFSU2's setup table are 8% high, multiply
the speed by .92 to get the speed you'll see in the car.

Gear ratio:

4.10 for URL, and any tight track.

3.48 for any event on the freeway, 6th gear will show 217mph / 349 kmh,
but the car will hit the rev-limiter at 200mph / 322 kmh,
because of the 8% error in the games gearing table.

Downforce - makes very little difference on grip. Between 0 downforce
and maximum downforce (front and rear), grip increases maybe
..1 g if that. Doesn't seem to have any significant drag effect so set
both to max (all the way right on front and rear). Does seem
to lower jump height a bit, so it helps in that sense. Almost like NFS
Porsche Unleashed, where front downforce didn't do anything
(except slow a car down), and rear downforce prevented jumps but didn't
increase grip at all.

Suspension - three changes, set front and rear height all the way left
(lowest height), and set rear sway bar to about the same as
front.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

im new to google groups and don't really know if it's gonna work..so if
youh have any ques. or need more tuning guids for other modes/. reply
me Smile Hope I Was Able To Help!!

The speed bug only affects the Corolla. When setting up other cars,
like the 240SX, or the GTI, the dyno speeds are the same as the
actual speeds.

Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

For the Drag or Straight Sprint course, use the Pontiac GTO. For Drift,
Street X, Tight Cornered circuit,

Sprint, and the URL, use the Mazda Miata MX-5. Use tuning adjustments
(level 3 upgrades) for circuit,

sprint and drag. ECU: High as possible at 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 revs; Turbo:
High as possible at 7, 8, 9 revs; Nitrous:

3-4 seconds; Suspension: Low as possible (ride height) and everything
else high as possible; Tires: High

grip on both, break balance at the middle; Transmission: Small tracks,
tight corners: Full acceleration.

Drag: All top speed.

The recommended car for an entire career is the Nissan 240SX (You Can
Do This With any Car Tho). Unlock all level 3 performance add them to
it (It's Okay If You Can't). Then, go to the dyno and tune it as
follows. First. go to the suspension and tune everything its highest.
Then, go to the drive train and also put everything at the highest.
Next, go to aerodynamics and do the same. Next, go to tires and brakes
and also put everything to the highest. Go to ECU and do the first dot.
Make it the highest, then with the next, also make that the highest.
Then, do the same to the rest. However, you cannot do it twice. Go to
turbo and do the same to turbo that you did to the ECU. Finally, go to
nitrous and set it at its maximum. Your car will be unstoppable as long
as you start with a perfect shift and do the same with the rest. Do the
dyno test again. You should see much improvement.

I have a savegame with the cars already tuned:

download zip file from here:

http://jeffareid.net/nfsu2/nfsu2.zip

Use the file TRBTN.

What game did you want a savefile for?

NFS9:Most Wanted:

Ik thought perhaps racing without tuning was the reason I wasn't doing to
well with the more advanced races in NFSMW with your safe file at
http://jeffareid.net/nfsmw/nfsmwau.zip.
