Hi,

I recently installed a game without a problem. I then got an external
hard drive and decided that I would reinstall the game onto that hard
drive. I deleted all of the game's files in the program files folder.
I then inserted the cd into the drive and to my dismay, on the auto-run
feature there is no choice for installing. I am only allowed to click
play or uninstall and neither of these work. I tried to manually
install from the setup file but this does not work either. Is there
any solution to this?

yea deleting the files broke the whole thing, you should never do that.
now there are registry entries to make the game think it is there, but
no files to play or uninstall. if the above method doesnt work, try
finding the games registry entries in regedit, but careful while
messing around in there, you can break the whole computer

Basically you haven't uninstalled the first installation yet. Just deleting
files from the hard disk isn't enough as there will be registry entries that
also need deleting.

Go into Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and look for your game. If it's
there, select the uninstall option.
Or in the Start Menu>All Programs, find your game and look for an unistall
option there.

Hopefully, it will still uninstall with the files that you deleted now
missing...

Try some of the registry cleaners available on the web. Major geeks has
a lot of stuff.

VzzBzz and N|A-Orion comments here are the main thing to try ..
But allso try opening an Explorer Window of the game CD's content ...to
stop the Install Auto-play featutre you
will probebly have to Right-Click the CD Drives drive letter/name and select
Open ..to get the Explorer .list of the files.
NOW ! find the one named SETUP and run that ...this may let you by-pass
around the Install/Uninstall feature.
I'm assuming you have Windows XP or 98 ..

The registry cleaners suggested by others here are probably your best bet
(if you don't know the exact registry entries and/or are uncomfortable with
manually editing the registry)... But, one question to consider is... Did
you actually permanently delete the game folder, or just do the regular
delete where it is still in the recycle bin? If you did that and haven't
emptied the recycle bin, you can probably restore the original directory,
then go through the uninstall process without having to do the registry
stuff...

Just a thought.
