I`ve tried all that (
I`ve searched the net and all i can find is some incompatibility with 64 bit
systems but no cure.
I`m not even sure mine is 64bit.I know its a core duo processer and fairly
recent, so maybe it is...

You would know. Most processors are capable of 64 bit these days, but
to take advantage you have to install a 64 bit OS. If you don't know
if you've got a 64 bit OS then you probably don't. <g>

Could be time to reinstall UT. That generally will solve these sort
of problems (file incompatibility).

I installed the 4.36 patch and that sorted the probs.
Hadn`t installed it on this latest install had to find the original disk to
install the patch and that took a while of digging )
