According to mobygame's article on Ultima 6:

"As Ultima VI was published in 1990, ten years after the original
Ultima (on the Apple II), Origin sold a special edition of the game to
players who pre-ordered it directly from them. The special edition box
was autographed by Lord British and included an audiocassette
interview with him. "

So, out of curiousity, does anybody have the tape? Or is there a
recording or transcript of it available for download anywhere? I'm
just wondering what he says.

The Origin Museum has a copy of the Ultima 6 'Special Edition', which
is autographed by Lord British-AND- Denis Loubet (lead Origin artist,
who is mostly known for the Ultima box art). The Special Edition also
includes a special 'clear' moonstone, and the audio cassette. The
'interview' is actually just Richard Garriott telling the history of
Ultima, and how the game developed. The production quality is rather
poor, and sounds like Richard just recorded it at his desk, on a
cassette recorder, just talking to the microphone.. The production
team later added Ultima music at the beginning and end of each side.
It is an interesting piece of history and a nice little extra for
collectors.

Right. And I'd still like to hear (or read) it. The "museum" website
doesn't seem to have any information on it.

So my call goes out again; anyone have this thing and can they share?

Well, it *USED* to be available on Jocksitter Dragon's webpage, but the
link has been broken for years.

I've thought about transferring it to digital format, but there are
implications:

* Copyright--I understand that chances are very good that noone will
care if this is data is on the net, but we take copyright very
seriously. BUT--this would be a good place to start to get the
'skinny' on copyright and old game data. I assume that if I said
'game', the answer would immediately be NO--but this is a bit
different. I've always looked for an excuse to contact the folks at EA
who handle copyright and things, and ask them questions about the odd
stuff like this.
AWESOME!--NEW PROJECT! Thanks Poly! Smile

* Forgery--I would consider this low--hi-rez scans of rare boxes
(Drash, Akalabeth, etc) are dangerous, but I don't think that going to
the trouble of forging a U6 Special Edition would really be worth it.
The come up on Ebay 2-3 times a year, and only sell for $100 when in
good shape (and complete).
