Battlefront'se Strategic Command 2 Weapons and Warfare expansion is
certainly one to consider: it is a significant improvement over the
original SC2. As a turn-based WW2 game, it is hard to beat and has just
the right level of complexity and is highly modifyable.

It does have thjis annoying online registration thing, but it is still a
good game. There is even a downloadable Advanced Third Reich mod that is
pretty good.

WDS <Bill RemoveThis @seurer.net>'s wild thoughts were released on Thu,

My review was never listed...

Yep, got bored of it very quickly.

The graphics (on my PC anyway) don't look anywhere near as
good as the screen shots and look a bit old school.

That doesn't bother me because I couldn't care less about
graphics if the game is any good.

My main beefs were that I was constantly having to adjust
the camera angle every time I selected a unit, I found that
sometimes it was very difficult to click on the hex you
wanted to move on if there were other units around forcing
me to play around with the camera angles yet again.

I found that on occasion I would click a button on the
bottom of the screen but this would be interpreted as a
click on the map and hence my unit would move.

But mainly I found the game play so repetitive. Every map is
essentially the same, playing a different race does little
to enrich the experience, the goal of every map is pretty
mych the same too.

The game can be tricky and sometimes pretty hard but it felt
more frustrating than challenging.

The rpg element didn't excite me either. Normal units can
only reach level 5, heroes 10 after which that's it.

Leveling up lets you choose +1 movement etc

Special items (of which normal units can carry one and
heroes 3) are essentially free upgrades ie the same +1
movement etc.

Then there is the fact that the game is over too soon. I
guess I like looong games and I like upgrading units and
caring about losing them. Sadly this game did not fulfil
that criteria for me.

If I'd bought this game from a bargin bin I would have been
pleased with my purchase, having paid full price I wish I'd
spent it on something else.

Why are you leaving TB Wargames out of the list of contenders? They are
also strategy games.

Yea, either UFO:E or Space Empires V. I know SE5 didn't get good reviews
but it has received quite a few patches since then and I quite like it.
