Uh, the quest said nothing about that and I saw no messages to that effect.

It means you completed the quest, it will disappear when you hand the quest
in. Get the next quest which is to tame something else, then there's
probably a 3rd, and then at that point you'll learn the skill to tame pets,
which is when you get a permanent one. That wand you're taming with for the
quest is designed to not tame it permanently, but only for a few minutes.

No, I think that it was only my pet for 10 minutes...the next quest is to
tame another type of animal and it said it would only be my pet for 10
minutes.

Don't fret, this is completely normal. It is because you are a dirty
filthy Horde. God hates Horde and kills a kitten everytime somebody
rolls one. Roll a Dwarf Hunter and all will be fine.

The two charges are just 'extra' in case something 'bad' happens during
the first taming.

You do not need the pet to report the quest; you only need the wand
(that indicates you have successfully tamed something).

The 10-minute "train your pet" comment is bogus. I've trained all
three pets within a five minute span (Kharanos has all the pets nearby,
unlike the dirty rotten Hunter at Razor Hill who makes you trudge miles
just to find a stupid crab).

Oh... instead of 'dismissing' your pet after you train, just issue it a
'stay' before you report to the Hunter Trainer. Dismissed pets have a
bad habit of turning on their nice master.
