Okay, so when I finished my last memo here I was mildly annoyed. This
group is still basically dead, despite the fact that we are the most
well-written people (on average, for a group) to play this game.
So I went to...arrggh...Gamefaqs. I'd tried this once before, only to
get a bad address or a little kid who had to pack up before I could get
on. VERY ANNOYING. This time I got lucky. Judging by her name and chat
style, she was young teen--I'm guessing, because I NEVER ask this
stuff. And she did volunteer that she was from Canada.
I had a bunch of trade goods (eight duplicate gyroids, a couple
fossils, one Snowman carpet, a pic of Opal...basically good stuff that
I didn't need and didn't want to waste by selling to Nook) and all I
wanted for them was the three types of fruit I was missing. She had an
open invite on the Gamefaqs WiFi Board, so I posted my offer and my
requirements (I need 30 minutes to get to a WiFi spot) and she agreed.
Next thing I know, I'm at McD's and everything is working perfect.
Except for the rain. The rain has really, really started. Anyway, I
immediately drop my loot, she's thrilled, I go to harvest fruit. I get
all I want, then tell her about all the MORE junk I have in my place.
We're ready to head out when--QUITE LITERALLY--lightning strikes!
Zap! There go the lights! There goes the WiFi connect! And there goes
my game.
I restart. (Thankfully, NO RESETTI!) But--I lost all my fruit. Still
had all my trade goods, though. Open the gate immediately, just hoping.
And who should walk in...But my friend from Canada! She'd lost her
game, and all the stuff, but I retrade immediately, and she runs home
to bring back more fruit. And she's back in three minutes. Perfect. Got
everything I needed.
I let her browse through my personal flea market--I don't sell anything
that I buy from Nook back to Nook (don't ask), I just leave them
outside my door, and she played rummage sale for 15 minutes while I
fretted about the increased lightning and rising flooding. She checked
out my village, oohed and aahed at my place, and I finally had to warn
her that the weather was insane and we were about to lose everything
again.
We exchanged emails and said goodbye. Excellent transaction.
Only problem is, she's probably a minor, and I hate dealing with
minors. At least she's a nice minor. Read the thread on
Gamefaqs/ACWW/WiFi about scams and vandals before you try anything with
them.
I was not wrong about the weather. About two miles away, one fairly
large mall building collapsed under weight of the water. I practically
surfed my way home. I am now totally, utterly soaked. in fact, and it's
still pouring. The sky is a dark gray-blue. I'll be happy if I make it
home without stalling. Anyway, the moral of the story is...
I DO NOT recommend wi-fi during inclement weather. But thanks to a
fairly clever partner, we got it to work. Probably next week I will try
again with one of you. Don't worry, I've got enough rare junk to supply
you all for a month...
