Trapped in demo easter egg

I finally got out. You have to walk up to the slate, look down, right click
and then you get a hand icon if you run it over the slate that links you
back to the beach. Back at the beach you can go through the twisting tunnel
with the black snake, come out at a different part of the beach and walk
through the water to the island with the tree on the door. That's what you
were inside of with the easter egg.

I never did get both doors open on the main puzzle. The walkthrough just
didn't make sense to me as to what symbols I'm supposed to dial in or how
I'm supposed to derive those symbols. The symbols they suggested for the
pillars - some of them aren't even available on any of the pillars. Anybody
know how to do this part?
