Ooh, you're a canny one, you are. Very wickedly done. Post of the Year
material. Unfortunately, the award cereomony is still some 364 days away.

Thats a difficult question. Lets see have there been any space sims released
other than X3? I cant recommend anything becuase I havent bought any space
sims over the last three years never mind the last year. Space sims are
practically dead. Really needs a great game like Elite to come along and
revitilise the genre but personally I think Elite is also dead. I'm heading
back to my Traveller RPG gaming because computer based space games are so
dead!

Don't worry. PC games in general are almost dead. It's not an
anti-spacesim conspiracy.

It was a pretty bad year for space sims but once again, I suggest you
look at Space Rangers 2.

Space Rangers 2 is pretty good. It is the only space sim I bought this
year.

Man I never thought I would see the day.

With Carmack bought and paid for to be a XBox / DirectX Microserf,
(dropping OpenGL as a result) and Sweeney throwing in with Sony
Playstation, you might be right. From what I'm reading PC games have
taken a big backseat to the consoles now.

These are only 2 developers, but it does show a treand.

BooHooWhoo, I'm on a roll.

Well, one of the 3 that was released is: Nexus, The Jupiter Incident.

I'm so nostalgic for a good space sim I paid $45.00 american for this
deal. <sigh>

It involved so much micro-managment of things I just could not get
into it. You drive a big lumbering ship and fight other big lumbering
ships. You have to take out specific turrents on the enemies big
lumbering ship in a specific order, then launch specific fighters...
and on and on. If I want to work in a predictable manner I'll just *go
to work.*

I never became used to the parallax view either. It looked weird. Oh
well, at least they tried.

In addition to SR2 (which is my personal GOTY), I also bought X3. I
installed it on my old hard-drive (which died last week), but, for some
inexplicable reason, didn't play it. Just couldn't bring myself to start
another X game (or the same game....depending how you look at it).

So far, I've only installed one game on my new hard-drive.....Freelancer, of
all things. I'm fooling around with the "Takegi's Treasure" FL mod. Great
fun! I've got to reinstall SR2....then maybe X3 (will I actually play it,
tho'?)...along with some of my favorite RTS's and RPG's(DOW, MW, et al). By
the time I do all that, maybe the English version of Parkan II will finally
be out (if there's still going to be an English version. Who knows?).

Saw it for $15 at Fry's a couple of weeks ago, but took a pass (I'd played
the demo and was underwealmed, i.e., couldn't tell what the hell was going
on).

I hear you. I played X2 and it was OK. After reading about X3, I just
passed it up. Maybe when it goes into the bargain bin I will consider
it. I really like Freelancer despite its flaws. Maybe I will take
another look.....

You may giving me too much credit, Ceo. I genuinely enjoyed Walter's post
(except for the bit where he misspelled "phlocking"). However, if he
wishes to flame me I'm willing to take one on the chin just for the
entertainment value.

Cheers,
