I use news.individual.net as my news server everywhere, including work, too,
as I can set up my account on Outlook Newsreader even though the company
uses Microsoft Outlook. The server is about $10-12 per year, and is
great -- works with lots of newsreaders.

I recommend it highly. One account no matter where you are -- if you can
set up Thunderbird, OE, XNews, or other newsreader.

Oh. Sad

Our system is pretty policed, but they either 1) don't know about usenet or
2) don't care. I suspect the latter, as usenet is unknown to so many.

Yeah, I pretty much gave up on the 4 line signature on this group. I
have too many chars. Smile I personally try to make sure a given post
is longer than my sig, but it's not always possible.

<g> Yeah, me, too. Along about that time I just don't reply -- which is
probably what you're doing. I learned the hard way, though. Early on I
grouped with a couple of different quest beggars and found that they just
want to go along for the ride with a higher level to complete quests. And,
of course, share the booty.

Excuse me, but if I can do this alone, I'm going to do it alone.

That's been the rude awakening for me at L70. I'm going to have to group
for some of the quests that suggest a group. I can't wait it out for a
couple more levels. I guess I'll be getting to know some of the players on
my server a bit better. Smile

Take your nerve and stick it. If you think it's a virtue to ignore the
conventions of an established group (and in fact most of an entire
communications medium), then screw you too. *

Gah! I have this conversation on /trade at least once a week. They just
never get it. I also see "LF Jewelcrafter" messages too, which makes me
laugh almost as hard. *

We don't care what you think is better in this case. If you want to be part

the interposting model for messages for as long as it's existed. *

Often they've bought into the FUD that addons are cheats and will get them
banned, or they're worried about trojans that will steal their WoW account
and leave their character naked. (Rightly so: One trojan was in the
*screenshot* for an addon at one of the popular addon sites. Viewing the
web page with an unpatched IE would infect you.) (Everyone: Go patch your
system with the latest security updates. Right now. And stop using
Incontinent Exploder, the biggest target of trojans.)

Email, especially in business, is different. The problem there is that the
thread is often joined later by carbon copy (CC) and the newcomers need the
full context of what went before. (I've seen recipient lists explode to
involve a dozen people at each of 4 companies to work a tricky problem.)
The better technical solution in such cases is some kind of issue tracking
system where all comments are available online to logged-in users, but it's
hard to get that right when multiple companies are involved and one needs a
degree of confidentiality. (As if email served that end.) It's like the
saying that when all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

Well, whatever. Most of us don't need coordinate cheats to get
around. If some idiot can't describe the location of a place in in-
game terms, it's really better for everyone playing the game if he
doesn't reply at all.
